Welcome to our Testimonial Tuesday series!

Each of our patients come to us with their own stories to tell, and the NCHC is privileged to be trusted with every one of them.

We are so happy to continue receiving and sharing this kind feedback, and using it to fuel the care that we provide.

Knowledge sharing is at the heart of meaningful change.

We are proud to recognize Dr. Vickie Siu and the Research Evaluation Committee for representing the New Canadians Health Center at the Canadian Evaluation Society Conference on May 26, 2026.

Their work contributes to advancing evaluation practices and fostering positive impact in complex and evolving environments.

Last year, our team at the New Canadians Health Centre was proud to partner with the Edmonton North Primary Care Network (ENPCN) as a site for Alberta’s Cervix Self-Screening Pilot Project.

This pilot program offered eligible patients an HPV self-screening option that could be completed privately and comfortably, without the need for a traditional Pap test. For many patients — especially newcomers and those facing barriers to screening — this approach made cervical cancer screening more accessible, less invasive, and easier to complete.

We are grateful to have partnered with ENPCN and Alberta’s Cervical Cancer Screening Program on an initiative focused on improving access, equity, and preventive care for underserved communities.

Primary Care Alberta’s Edmonton Tuberculosis (TB) Clinic partners with the New Canadians Health Centre to make TB care more accessible, culturally responsive, and easier to navigate for newcomers.

Together, we provide compassionate care closer to home, support clients in navigating the healthcare system, and connect them with essential social supports including interpretation, housing, and employment resources.

Through trusted relationships and strong collaboration, our team helps remove barriers to care while promoting wellness and continuity of services. This partnership has deepened our commitment to quality, equity focused care and to serving diverse communities across Edmonton.

At the NCHC, we use a shared care model to assess and assist all of our patients.

This approach allows each patient to be seen by multiple providers across our team, rather than a single clinician. By sharing care in this way, we are able to improve access and reduce wait times, ensuring patients receive timely support.

Through this model, patients benefit from the collective availability of our providers, allowing for more efficient and responsive care.

Today is World Health Day, and this year's theme is "Together for health. Stand with science."

This theme promotes evidence-based healthcare, backed by scientific research.

The NCHC's Research and Evaluation Committee, in collaboration with partners like the University of Alberta, aims to do just that! Our ongoing research helps evaluate the care we provide to our patients, as we seek to discover ways we can improve refugee health in Canada.

We wanted to take a moment to share another story from one of our previous patients.

This testimonial serves as our reminder to always support patients in any way we can, no matter what they are going through.

We are extremely grateful for these kind words as we continue to provide the best care possible to new patients and strengthen our community.

Today is World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, and this year’s theme is “Yes we can end TB. Led by countries, powered by people.”

Refugees are often disproportionately affected by tuberculosis, so we wanted to use this day to acknowledge the Stop TB Partnership and its extended community that is committed to ending tuberculosis, and affirm the NCHC’s place as part of this community.

Yes we can !
