Uniform Leadership Day! 🇨🇦

Our cadets spent the day getting their uniforms ready for the upcoming Remembrance Day Ceremony! Senior cadets took the time to teach our younger cadets how to properly care for, maintain, and prepare their uniforms to ensure they look their best.

Throughout the day, cadets also participated in various activities, enjoyed some pizza for lunch, and worked together while building their leadership and teamwork skills.

We had a productive and fun-filled day, and we are excited and looking forward to the upcoming Remembrance Day Ceremony! 🌺

Recognizing Excellent Sportsmanship!

Congratulations to Corporal Karpiak S. on receiving an award for her excellent sportsmanship during Sports Night!

Throughout the evening, Cpl Karpiak demonstrated kindness, fairness, and respect toward her fellow cadets. She encouraged others, showed care and consideration for her fellow cadets, maintained a positive attitude, and gave her best effort in every game she participated in.

Her enthusiasm and willingness to support others helped create a welcoming and enjoyable environment for everyone. She showed that sportsmanship is about more than winning — it’s about teamwork, respect, encouragement, and making sure everyone feels included.

Well done, Cpl Karpiak! Your positive attitude and outstanding sportsmanship are an excellent example for your fellow cadets. Keep up the great work!

🏆 Sports Night at 50 LCo Barker Squadron!

Our cadets had an exciting Sports Night filled with teamwork, friendly competition, and plenty of fun! The evening kicked off with a game of Hot Dog Tag, followed by an energetic round of dodgeball, where cadets had the chance to put their skills and teamwork to the test.

Sports Night is a great opportunity for cadets to stay active, build friendships, and enjoy some friendly competition outside of regular training activities.

🎉Congratulations to our cadets on their recent achievements!

Cadet Travis Morton successfully completed the Small Craft Coxswain course at TDLC this summer, earning his Small Craft Operator Proficiency (SCOP) Levels 1 and 2 while learning vessel operation, navigation, radio communication, and emergency procedures.

Cadet Dane O’Shea successfully completed the Cyber Safety and Security Team Leader course, developing cybersecurity skills, learning from Canadian Armed Forces experts, and participating in a cyber competition.

Jack Morton was promoted to Leading Air Cadet (LAC)! Congratulations on this achievement and continued progress in the program.

🌺 Poppy Campaign Kick-Off! 🌺

Yesterday and today, cadets from 50 LCol Barker Squadron are out at the Co-op and Safeway selling poppies for the Royal Canadian Legion, kicking off this year's Poppy Campaign.

The poppy is a symbol of Remembrance. It honours the Canadians who served and sacrificed in times of war, conflict and peacekeeping, and those who serve today.

Every dollar donated through the campaign goes to support Veterans and their families, including help with housing, healthcare, and emergency needs.

Please stop by, say hello to our cadets, and pick up a poppy. Wear it proudly, and take a moment to remember. 🇨🇦

✈️ Crash course in flying, literally! ✈️

Tonight our second-year cadets at 50 LCol Barker VC Squadron took the controls of the flight simulator, most of them for the very first time.

They learned how the basic controls work and tried their first takeoffs and landings.

There were plenty of crashes, but that's the beauty of a simulator. You crash, laugh, reset and try again!

Every attempt taught them something new, and the excitement in the room was hard to miss.

Interested in aviation, leadership and adventure? Air Cadets is free for youth aged 12 to 18. Come check us out!

Marksmanship Tryouts Are Underway!

Our cadets have been taking aim and putting their skills to the test in our marksmanship competition as they compete for a spot on the squadron’s marksmanship team! Those selected will have the opportunity to represent 50 LCol Barker Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron at the upcoming Zone Competition in February.

The anticipation is building! The results will be announced next Tuesday, October 20th, at cadets, so stay tuned and keep your excitement going as we find out who will make the team!

But don’t worry if you aren’t selected this time! Later in November, we’ll be hosting a squadron-wide shooting day where everyone will have the opportunity to participate, practice their skills, and have some fun — whether you’re on the team or not!

🎖️ PROMOTION & APPOINTMENT ALERT🎖️

Congratulations to two of our cadets, promoted to Warrant Officer Second Class and appointed on 04 Oct 26 during our Field Training Exercise at Asessippi Provincial Park!

⭐ Warrant Officer Second Class Ayla Taylor has been appointed Senior Training Cadet

⭐ Warrant Officer Second Class Yelyzaveta Datsenko has been appointed Senior Administration Cadet

Earning new rank in the field, amongst their fellow cadets on a training exercise, is a pretty fitting way to step up. Both cadets now take on key leadership roles, helping guide training and keep the squadron running smoothly this year.

We are so proud of you both.

Last day of FTX, and the cadets finished the same way they trained: together.

Split into their five Sections, they raced through a relay that put teamwork, communication, navigation, and campcraft to the test. Three-legged race first, then a full tent teardown, a compass challenge to find a note, the word passed over the radio in the phonetic alphabet, and a fire to light at the end. Friendly competition, plenty of problem-solving, and a solid way to test the skills learned on the exercise.

They closed out their exercise with a signal fire before loading the bus and returning to their respective units.
