The Nova Scotia Loyal Farmer’s Market voucher program is back. Students will have these given to them to take home throughout public schools in Nova Scotia, some schools have already distributed them.

This is your reminder if you have already pre-registered for a free Square Roots produce bundle, courtesy of the Cole Harbour Community Fridge Association.

Please pick up your bundle at 915 Cole Harbour Road in the hall on the lower level of the Forest Hills Fellowship Church (door facing Cole Harbour Road) tomorrow night between 6-6:30pm.

We will always do our best to get everything packed and out the door to you as quickly as possible. Thank you, in advance, for your patience!

Square Roots ~ Cole Harbour Community Fridge

🫑 We are offering free Square Roots produce bundles in our Cole Harbour, by advanced sign up.

💐 This distribution will be our last Square Roots until the fall.

🍏Please use this form to sign up for your free produce bundle. We will have a maximum of 30 bundles available approximately one to two times per month.

🥦We will typically have a variety of standard vegetables such as potatoes, apples, sweet potatoes, greens, squash, and cucumber, as examples. This base bundle will change based on seasonable availability. Each bag of produce is about 10 pounds of food.

🍎If you fill out the form below, you’re on the list! See you at pick up! If you try to fill it out the form but it says it is closed or full and you would like to join the waitlist for this week, please contact us at [email protected].
Please note that those on the waitlist may receive less than 30 minutes notice of an available bundle.

🥕If you order a bundle but cannot pick it up this week, please let us know so we can give it to someone on the waitlist. Any bundles not picked up within the time frame will be donated to the Cole Harbour Community Fridge.

Thank you to the incredible students, staff, and families at Colonel John Stuart Elementary School for their generosity, compassion, and commitment to community through their cereal and KD drive.

Together, they collected 261 items for our friends at the Cole Harbour Woodside United Church’s Foodbank and for all of the community members supported through the Cole Harbour Community Fridge. ❤️

Ms. Carmichael (Grade 5 teacher) shared that this initiative was part of a school-wide intentional reconciliACTION following a Treaty Education lesson based on the traditional Métis story The Giving Tree: A Retelling of a Traditional Métis Story by Leah Dorion.

In the story, a very special Manitoba Maple tree with a hollow became known as the Giving Tree because it acted as a cache — a shared space where travellers could leave supplies for others and take only what they needed.

The story teaches Indigenous values of reciprocity, respect, caring, honesty, sharing, gratitude, and responsibility to both community and the land.

People would leave offerings, such as to***co to honour the tree and food or supplies to help ensure the next traveller passing by would also be cared for.

The teachings of the Giving Tree connect deeply with the spirit of the Cole Harbour Community Fridge.

Like the Giving Tree, the fridge is a community cache — a place rooted in mutual aid, respect and collective care, where people give what they can, take what they need, and help support one another with dignity and compassion.

Thank you Colonel John Stuart Elementary for turning learning into action and for demonstrating such meaningful care for community. 🌳
