I will not be posting names. Feel free to share but please DO NOT comment anyones name even if you feel you know who this is about or know someone in situation like this. You can PM me if you’d like to talk but please keep this post respectful. Don’t use names!

I heard about a life coach being arrested for sexual assault and it sent me down a rabbit hole.

Out of curiosity, I started doing some research. The deeper I dug, the more unsettling it really was. This person has not been convicted, only arrested. However, I spoke to people who described deeply troubling encounters. What stood out wasn’t just inappropriate behavior.. it was manipulation!

In the multiple stories I’ve now heard there are a couple patterns I keep seeing..
- This person keeps referring to themselves as a mentor or that they can have more opportunity with them in their life.
- Hinting at jobs, partnerships, or growth within their company.
- Gradually testing boundaries.
- Requesting explicit content under the guise of “trust,” “confidence building,” or “proving commitment.”
- Using grooming language by asking if someone would be a “good girl,” implying they must have something to wake up to - “I’ll let you decide what I wake up to watching.” Etc.
- Wants to be referred to as Sir, Boss/Master, etc.
- Gives gifts.

Then, the moment someone catches on or pushes back?
The tone flips.
Warmth turns cold. Praise turns into cruelty. Everything once said to build them up gets weaponized and ripped away.

That’s not life coaching.
That’s predatory behavior.

Real coaching empowers people without exploiting them. It does not:
Ask for ANY sexual content or actions to take place.
Tie professional opportunity to personal or sexual compliance.
Tear someone down and belittle them when they set boundaries or do not comply right away.
Target people who are knowingly vulnerable or seeking growth.

Life coaches often work with people who are navigating major life changes — career shifts, breakups, financial stress, self-esteem struggles. That vulnerability deserves protection, not exploitation.

If you’re looking for a coach please be picky!
Check their credentials.
Look for clear professional boundaries.
NEVER send explicit content.
Trust your instincts if something feels off.
Document any inappropriate behavior.
Have supports.

We need stronger accountability in the self-development space. Titles like “coach,” “mentor,” and “consultant” can create instant authority or trust, but remember..
they don’t automatically equal integrity.

Protect vulnerable people. Call out red flags. Normalize talking about manipulation tactics.

Because that isn’t motivation.
It isn’t empowerment.
And it definitely isn’t coaching.

Teach yourself, teach your peers & teach your children, that this behaviour is unacceptable no matter who the other person if portraying to be.
