Leah is One in Three.

When she finds the courage to call, we want to be able to say yes.

She could be your sister. Your best friend.

A colleague. You.

One in three women will experience abuse in her lifetime.

By expanding from 12 to 42 beds, My Friend’s House is helping write the next chapter - one defined by hope, healing and a future free from abuse.

November is Women Abuse Prevention Month.

One in three women will experience abuse in her lifetime.

At My Friend’s House, women reach out every day for safety and support. When they do, we want to be able to say yes. That’s why we’re expanding from 12 beds to 42, so more women and children can begin their next chapter free from violence.

Thank you, TD Ready Commitment, for renewing your support of our transitional housing program!

Your investment is creating pathways to affordable housing and financial security for women survivors of gender-based violence. It also helps bridge the gap between emergency shelter and independent living.

Together, we’re building safer, stronger communities and lasting change for generations to come.

Together, with House of Hope and the redevelopment of our existing shelter, this expansion will allow us to grow from our current 12-bed emergency shelter to 42 beds across emergency and second-stage housing.  That growth means more emergency shelter, more transitional housing and a stronger continuum of support for women as they move from crisis toward greater stability and independence.

For us, 12 to 42 is about much more than a number. It’s about how many more women and children we can help

We’re excited to share a first look at our new property in Wasaga Beach—a major step forward in creating more safe spaces for women and children in our community.

Renovations are now underway, with plans to open our doors in winter 2027. This new home will offer safety, stability, and space to heal while helping more women and children begin their next chapter.

Last year, we turned away 558 women and children seeking shelter  because we did not have enough room. It’s one of the hardest numbers for us to share, and one of the clearest reasons this expansion matters. There were women who reached out for safety, and despite every effort to help, there simply wasn’t a bed available.  We want that number to change. Help us create more safe spaces for women and children to write their next chapter.

Last year, our crisis line was answered more than 7,000 times. Those calls came from women looking for information, safety planning, advocacy, support and, sometimes, simply someone to help them figure out what to do next.  Every call is different. What matters is that when someone reaches out, we are there to answer.

The Next Chapter will help us strengthen what happens beyond that first call, creating more pathways to safety and support when they’re needed.

Last year, 189 women and children received support from My Friend’s House. Each came to us with different circumstances, different needs and a different idea of what moving forward might look like.

Our role is to meet women where they are, providing safety and support while creating the space to consider what comes next.

Our next chapter is inspired by the last and the numbers that tell us why this work matters so much.
