A truly beautiful and educational hike through history and rewilding.
Linda Finley organized a unique outing for BMBTC hikers. On Wednesday morning, 8 hikers met at Duntroon Highlands to experience the Highlands Art and Tree Trail, where the president himself, Martin Rydlo, led the tour.
Many art installations were set up along this 2 km loop. Each artist was inspired by different aspects of the land - from the resilience of native species to humanity’s collective responsibility for stewardship. The sculptures were made from a variety of materials like metal, driftwood, clay, dolostone, and old farm equipment.
Their website says, “the trail invites a deeper connection with the land through the themes of natural history, human heritage, and ecological renewal.”
We admired the creativity of pieces like “The Wellness Wheel” and “Mosaic on Skis”. Visitors were even allowed to interact with the art (sitting on the “Arc Bench” or in the “Bateau sur l’escarpement”).
This experience was truly educational - a definite “must-see”!
