UPDATE: Dog has been reunited with his family

Tara sent this message: Dune has been reunited with my neighbour, who adopted and rescued him only yesterday. Dune probably jumped the fence and didn’t know really where he lived. It was so satisfying to get them reunited and back settled in their home just five doors down from us.

Tara sent the following message: We just found a beautiful dog walking around in our front yard. It started raining, so we brought him inside. It’s 4:15 on Tuesday.

We're pretty close to River Park, so there’s a chance he ran off from the office leash park or the dog lives nearby.

He is warm and safe at my house for now.

Today two volunteers returned to finish the job of removing staples from surfaces in River Park. It was way worse than expected! This is what was gathered from poles stretching from the middle dumpster going north to 38 Ave. Lots were about to fall off and just waiting to get stuck in a dog's paw!

Please, for the love of our dogs, watch for dangers and never create one.

Changes are taking root at River Park! 🌳

A few new trees are being added–and they're BIG! They'll provide more shade, enhance the natural beauty of the space, and make visits even more enjoyable for dogs and us.

While removing our June event posters in River Park, we also removed leftover staples from other people’s notices and scraped off a surprising amount of old chewing gum.

Why? Staples on the ground can injure dog paws, and Xylitol in gum is toxic to dogs if eaten.

Please, for the love of dogs, watch for potential dangers, and never create one.

Today's park clean-up was paws-itively awesome! Huge thanks to everyone who joined us today—both the two-legged and four-legged volunteers! Featured in photos are just a few of the generous folks who gave their time.

We had fantastic engagement throughout the event, with plenty of friendly conversations, wagging tails, and community spirit on display.

The best news? Our volunteers reported that the park was already in great shape, which says a lot about how much our community cares for this shared space. 💚

Special thanks to Shirley and Sheila for going the extra mile to refresh the lost and found sign and box, and give the people/dog fountain a scrub.

We’re grateful for everyone who came out, lent a hand, shared a smile, and showed appreciation for the effort. Together, we’re helping keep River Park beautiful and welcoming for everyone.

Event Confirmation - June 14
Good weather is forecast, so we'll go ahead with the River Park clean-up on Sunday, June 14 from 9:30 to 11:00am. Please bring supplies like gloves and bags, or a pail and shovel. We'll start at the south end by the parking lot. Hope to see you and your dog there!

Please join us for a spring clean-up at River Park. Any amount of time you can spare is appreciated. Just show up and “doo” your part. BTW, we'll also address garbage, cigarette butts and anything else that shouldn't be left behind.

There are no prizes or recognition for our volunteer efforts. Just take satisfaction knowing that you're helping to create a great experience for all park users. Thanks in advance!

River Park can't get any more beautiful than this! The crabapple trees, lilac bushes and crocuses are amazing. Sharing pics taken just before all the rain that's forecast this week.

On Monday, Feb 16, 2026, some park users informed us that the River Park water fountain cover had been vandalized. It appears someone attempted to remove the east side panel and, in doing so, damaged some of the structure. We think the vandals intended to steal the fountain to get money for the metal. A park user placed the damaged panel on top of the fountain, but it went missing after the snowstorm on Tuesday, Feb 17.

Unfortunately, our two team members who created the cover and graphics were out of town for a family emergency and unavailable to address the damage. They were saddened by the news, as the graphics on the damaged panel were dedicated to their dog who passed away in September 2025.

Upon returning to Calgary, they created a new panel and replacement graphics. When they went to the park to do repairs, they found the damaged panel at the base of the fountain, partially covered in snow and dog urine.

We’re happy to say the fountain cover is now fully restored.
