We are incredibly proud to celebrate Adaobi H. Anikwe who was formally called to the Bar of Alberta on Thursday August 13th.

This is a remarkable achievement and testament of her hard work, perseverance, and dedication. Please join us in the comments in congratulating Adaobi, Barrister and Solicitor!

Adaobi was a part of our Path2Practice for Internationally Trained Lawyers (ITLs) program, which supported ITLs in navigating the Canadian legal landscape and secure competitive articling positions here in Calgary.

And to Elliot H. Bridgewater, Principal Lawyer at Oemichen Bridgewater LLP, we extend a thank you for the support, guidance, and mentorship you have provided to our internationally trained professionals through the program.

Connection is at the heart of building an inclusive and thriving workforce (and the Calgary Stampede is at the heart of Calgary Culture)

Thank you to everyone who joined CRIEC and Centre for Newcomers for our 2026 Pre-Stampede Breakfast. The morning brought together professionals, employers, mentors, mentees, and community leaders to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas, and celebrate the spirit of Calgary ahead of Stampede season.

We're grateful to our attendees, volunteers, staff, and speakers for contributing their time, energy, and enthusiasm.

We would also like to recognize the organizations whose support made this event possible: Centre for Newcomers, Platform Calgary, Royal Bank of Canada, CPA Alberta, Calgary Stampeders, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, and Employment and Social Development Canada.

Thank you for helping create spaces where meaningful connections can flourish and diverse talent can thrive.

"When I moved to Calgary in 2023 from my home country, I brought with me over 15 years of international HR experience and a lot of hope. However, like many newcomers, the initial transition was far more challenging than I anticipated. Navigating a new job market and trying to find my footing in those first few months was incredibly tough, both professionally and personally.

Things really turned around for me once I got connected with CRIEC. Through their esteem mentorship program, I was matched with two incredible mentors - Ashley Jedlicka and Anita ReMartinez who truly understood the local landscape and believed in my potential. Their guidance, strategic advice, and genuine encouragement gave me the clarity and confidence I needed to navigate the Canadian workforce. Thanks to this invaluable support system, I secured my first job here in Calgary in April 2024.

What CRIEC does isn't just about filling job openings, it’s about giving people their confidence back, building a real community, and genuinely changing lives. I am so grateful to the entire team and the incredible mentors who volunteer their time. You are making such a difference here, one success story at a time." -Joyburt Baptista
