One table, three provinces, one priority: a strong future for Canada’s beef producers

Thank you to Agriculture Ministers, Tara Sawyer (Alberta), David Marit (Saskatchewan), and deputy ministers and officials from all three Prairie provinces for meeting with CCA, Manitoba Beef Producers, Alberta Beef Producers and Saskatchewan Cattle Association at Canadian Beef Industry Conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba this week.

Congratulations to Dr. Bart Lardner, who was presented with the 2026 Canadian Beef Industry Award for Outstanding Research and Innovation during the Canadian Beef Industry Conference in Winnipeg.

Dr. Lardner is a professor and researcher at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Agriculture and Bioresources and the current Ministry of Agriculture Strategic Research Program Chair in Cow-Calf and Forage Systems. His work focuses on the management and nutritional requirements of cow-calf, replacement heifers and feeder animals.

For more than two decades, Dr. Lardner’s applied research has shaped everyday practices on Western Canadian farms and ranches—from winter grazing and bale feeding to water quality management and heifer development. He is passionate about conducting research to generate recommendations on practices and technologies for cow-calf and forage producers to advance their productivity and profitability while supporting long-term sustainability.
