Earlier this week representatives from Manitoba Beef Producers travelled to Ottawa for meetings with Members of Parliament, Senators and Parliamentarians earlier this week.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to discuss opportunities and challenges in the Canadian beef industry, including the potential trade deal with Mercosur, Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) review, sufficient business risk management supports especially Livestock Price Insurance and Advanced Payments Program, as well as regional priorities like the Lake Manitoba and Lake St. Martin Outlet Channels Project.

Cheap beef today should not come at the cost of food security tomorrow. CCA is opposed to any beef access in a Mercosur trade deal which would result in increased imports of low-quality beef for Canadian consumers.

Increased beef imports will not lower prices for consumers and will increase our reliance on foreign supply, bringing increased risk from disruptions beyond our control, such as geopolitical, environmental, and economic disruptions.

“If this is the problem, then the solution is not simply more trade or more imports. The solution is sustained investment in domestic productivity and innovation.”

Short term affordability solutions can only get us so far. It's time to develop beef productivity solutions for true sector resiliency (Karen Churchill, GIFS)

Parlez-vous français ? Téléchargez un modèle de lettre à adresser à votre député et dites non à l'importation de viande bovine du Mercosur.

Le bœuf canadien n'est PAS un moyen de pression : de nouvelles négociations sont prévues pour la semaine prochaine.

Aidez-nous à faire passer le message : le bœuf canadien est destiné à nos assiettes, pas à servir de monnaie d'échange !

Faites savoir à vos amis et à votre famille que la diversification commerciale ne doit pas se faire au détriment de la base de production nationale du Canada ni de nos relations commerciales les plus importantes. La CCA soutient une diversification commerciale réciproque et équitable. Dans le cas du Mercosur, les données ne montrent aucune opportunité d’exportation significative pour le bœuf canadien, alors que les importations de bœuf en provenance du Mercosur sont déjà en forte hausse.
