CCA staff joined Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, at McDonald's Canada’s reception on the Hill this week to celebrate the delicious Canadian beef that goes into their burgers every day. 🍔🇨🇦

Thank you to McDonald's Canada for hosting and for being a strong partner to Canadian cattle producers.

CCA staff Daniela Lombardo appeared before the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade to discuss Canada–U.S. trade and the Canada-US-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). She emphasized that the Canadian and U.S. beef sectors operate as a single, integrated market, and that maintaining tariff-free trade through the CUSMA review is the beef sector's number one priority.

Daniela also raised the sector's ongoing concerns about increased beef imports under the Mercosur negotiations.

CCA participated in the Tri-National Agricultural Accord last week alongside several provincial cattle association representatives. The Tri-National Agricultural Accord invites senior state and provincial agricultural officials from Canada, the U.S.A. and Mexico to come together with industry to work collectively on agricultural trade, market challenges and rural development issues. The meetings took place in Calgary, September 28 to October 1.

CCA President Tyler Fulton and CEO Andrea Brocklebank both made presentations and participated in meetings and social events. Cattle sector representatives in attendance expressed support for the integrated North American cattle market and continued tariff-free access for beef and cattle.

Reminder, producers who choose to age verify their cattle now have more time to complete data entry.

📅 More time to enter voluntary birth dates in the CLTS - if you choose.

As of Oct. 1, 2026, herd-of-origin beef producers have more time to enter or update voluntary birth date information in the Canadian Livestock Tracking System (CLTS). In response to producer feedback, the timeframe to enter an animal's birth date information has been increased from 9 months to 12 months (365 days).

👍 Entering birth dates in the CLTS remains voluntary—your choice since 2022, it's not new.

👍A record notification will appear on an animal's record only when a birth date is entered or changed more than 12 months after the animal’s reported date of birth.

👍A record notification does not mean the producer has done something wrong or that the birth date is inaccurate and we will not call you. The notification is for information only.

👍 No additional verification is required simply because a record notification appears.

👍Existing CLTS records will also receive a one-time update. Notifications previously applied under the 9 month timeframe will be removed where the birth date was entered within 12 months of the animal’s reported date of birth.

The additional time provides herd-of-origin beef producers with greater flexibility to record birth date information if they choose to do so.
