Sisters in Spirit Day is recognized in Alberta on October 4 to honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, their families, loved ones and communities. 🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡
Today, ATA Local 55 honours the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities.
This day is a time to reflect on the lasting impacts of residential schools, to listen to Indigenous voices, and to commit ourselves to the ongoing work of truth and reconciliation. As educators, we have a responsibility to help foster understanding, respect, and meaningful learning about the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples.
Reconciliation is not a single day. It is an ongoing journey that requires learning, action, and a commitment to building stronger relationships.
