ACC Calgary Section The Calgary Section is the Alpine Club of Canada's largest section.

Tuesday February 17th - The February Social - PRiSM

Peaks, Ridges and Ski Mountaineering

Register on our Event Calendar!

Our February social promises to be a good one. The presentation itself will begin at 7:30 pm. Dinner and drinks are available from 6 pm on. We ask that you arrive by 7:15 to ensure your seat. We also request that you go to our events page and sign up for the event.

The presentation will feature two of our very active members, Simon Trudel and Brendan Clark, as they present their PRiSM series. The acronym stands for peaks, ridges and ski mountaineering. The following is a short write up about the presentation as well as introductions to our speakers.

We hope to see you on February 17th in the lower level of the Joyce on 4th.

SECTION CAMP
Have you ever wondered what the Calgary Section summer Camp is all about?

The mountaineering camp runs for three weeks every summer. It is a self-guided camp, each week is managed by a volunteer leader. It is always a great week with like minded people sharing fun times and climbs in the mountains.
Each week starts with a helicopter flight into a remote Alpine location.

EQUIPMENT:
A kitchen tent which is fully stocked with everything you need to cook and eat your meals.
Gear tent to store all your gear and food
Shower tent and even a toilet.
All you need to bring is your personal gear, tent and a sense of adventure and stoke!

SKILLS:
If you have scrambling, mountaineering and climbing skills this camp is for you! If you feel you need more experience check out all the fantastic courses that are on offer on the section calendar.

DATES:
This year's dates are 4, 11, 18 and 25 July. The 25 July week will be an AMP week!

Join us for the February Social TONIGHT February 18th at 7:30PM at Joyce on Fourth, featuring Tom Fransham, Capital Projects Manager at ACC National, on the topic of the new Castle Mountain Hut and other hut news.

This month, our speaker will be preceded by the Section's Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Board Election Results. Come get involved in your Section's governance - or even better yet, apply for a vacant Board position!

Tell your friends and bring a guest! We're opening up to walk-ins and non-members.

Tom is a 27-year member of the Calgary Section. He is an avid mountaineer, BC skier and a marginal rock climber. He we the section secretary for a year in the early 2000’s and then was Ski Chair for several years before focusing on raising a family. In his work life, he is a professional engineer and project manager who has found his dream job building renewable power systems and mountain huts for the ACC.

His presentation in his own words:
It has been a while since the ACC built a new hut. I will be giving the members an update on the building of the new Castle Hut and telling the story on how that finally came together.

I will also discuss the status of the Robson Pass Cabin and talk about the cabin design and our planned timelines for that to be complete and available for our members.

Time allowing, I will also talk about the hut projects that we have planned for the next 5 years.

As usual, the evening will take place at Joyce on Fourth, in the room on the lower level.

The evening's program will begin at 7:30. We ask that you arrive before 7:15 to ensure your seat. Dinner and drinks are available for purchase.

Tuesday's special is a steak sandwich. If you are planning on having dinner please arrive earlier.
