HomeSpace is on a mission to increase the number of affordable and specialized housing units in Calgary

In 2003, HomeSpace Society (formerly Calgary Community Land Trust Society) was created to fill a need in our community. That need is to significantly increase access to affordable housing and advance community–based planning and delivery of housing options, specifically to vulnerable populations. HomeSpace exists to support social agencies’ access to safe, appropriate and affordable housing for vulnerable populations in our city. We own a portfolio of over 750 units of housing in 24 communities throughout Calgary and we work with agencies who provide supports to vulnerable Calgarians in need of housing. HomeSpace is also a property developer, building specialized permanent housing in order to continually add to the affordable housing stock in our city. We own, operate, develop and provide housing for our community. DIG what we are all about

Yesterday, HomeSpace celebrated 10 years of creating homes, building community, and supporting people on their journey to stable housing!

As we reflect on the past decade, we’re looking back with a wider lens to recognize the incredible people who have helped our mission. From our generous sponsors and donors to our dedicated volunteers, staff, Board of Directors, and partners, every one of you has played a meaningful role in making HomeSpace what it is today.

We’re grateful to for welcoming our team to the land and giving us the opportunity to volunteer during the Sacred Fire Ceremony and Bringing Them Home gathering.

Being part of this meaningful day was an opportunity to listen, learn, reflect and come together in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation. Thank you to everyone at Miskanawah for sharing this space with us and for the important work you continue to do in bringing people together, honoring community and carrying forward the journey of reconciliation. 🧡

Meet our partner Miskanawah!

Miskanawah (meaning “pathways” or “many paths” in Cree) is an Indigenous-led charitable organization that is grounded in cultural traditions and teachings and has operated in Calgary for over 35 years. They are a multi-service organization, offering programs and services in the areas of family support (ranging from prevention and early intervention to intervention), youth services, clinical and cultural mental health support, crisis support, housing support, and cultural and ceremonial support.

Their mission, guided by indigenous teachings, is to provide culturally based support services to people in the Calgary area as they strengthen their circles of self, family, community, and culture to thrive.

We partner with Miskanawah in our Whitehorn building, where they provide services to all residents in need.

Thank you to each of our incredible partner agencies for the continuous support you provide to our residents each day. With your help, we are able to combat homelessness and give residents an opportunity to succeed.

Welcome to the HomeSpace board, Alexander!

Born and raised in Calgary, Alexander is a partner practicing in business law, commercial real estate, and real estate development. Throughout his career, he has built a diverse and sophisticated clientele, including residential, commercial, and industrial real estate developers, geomatics companies, energy companies, First Nations, and local, national, and international businesses.

Grounded in values of hard work, discipline, and loyalty, Alexander is committed to providing his clients with tireless effort and practical, effective solutions. His background in small business and real estate gives him a unique understanding of the intricacies of commerce and development, while his entrepreneurial spirit allows him to work alongside his clients to navigate complex challenges and opportunities.

Outside of work, Alexander brings that same entrepreneurial spirit to the golf course — with mixed results!

We’re thrilled to have Alexander join us and look forward to the experience and perspective he’ll bring to the HomeSpace board.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of attending and speaking at the 2026 Calgary Housing Summit hosted by the

Creating meaningful change starts with conversation. Community engagement gives us the opportunity to listen, share ideas, learn from one another and better understand the experiences and perspectives that shape our city.

As we work toward a Calgary where everyone has access to a safe, affordable place to call home, staying connected with our community and with others across the housing sector is essential.

We want to sincerely thank the City of Calgary for bringing our housing community together and creating space for these important conversations. We’re grateful to be part of the dialogue and look forward to continuing to learn, connect and build a more inclusive city together.

Housing is about more than a number of homes or units. It’s about the people who call those homes their own.

Our residents come from a wide range of backgrounds, ages, and life experiences. From families with children to seniors, newcomers, and individuals transitioning from homelessness, each person brings their own story, strengths, and hopes for the future.

These numbers offer a snapshot of the diverse community we serve, and a reminder of why affordable, accessible, and supportive housing matters.

Together with our residents, partners, and community, we’re creating homes where people can find stability, build connections, and move toward a brighter future. 🏠

Meet our partner !

Since 1989, CUPS’ non-profit Community Health Centre has been supporting Calgarians facing poverty, trauma and homelessness to strengthen their overall health and well-being.

Through integrated programs and services in the areas of health, basic needs and housing, and family and child development, CUPS empowers individuals and families to navigate complexities and create meaningful, lasting change in their lives.

We partner with CUPS in 4 of our buildings, where they provide community supports to help our residents maintain long-term housing.

We’re grateful to have partnerships like this one so we can focus on building more affordable housing while knowing that our residents have the support they need.
