In 2003, HomeSpace Society (formerly Calgary Community Land Trust Society) was created to fill a need in our community. That need is to significantly increase access to affordable housing and advance community–based planning and delivery of housing options, specifically to vulnerable populations. HomeSpace exists to support social agencies’ access to safe, appropriate and affordable housing for vu

lnerable populations in our city. We own a portfolio of over 750 units of housing in 24 communities throughout Calgary and we work with agencies who provide supports to vulnerable Calgarians in need of housing. HomeSpace is also a property developer, building specialized permanent housing in order to continually add to the affordable housing stock in our city. Last week’s grand opening in Whitehorn brought together the people, partnerships, and vision that made it possible to bring 52 more non-market homes to Calgary.

Now that the first families have moved into their new home, we can’t wait for this community to take shape. 💛

Meet our partner Calgary Dream Centre!

The Calgary Dream Centre provides holistic addiction recovery programs, supportive housing, and vocational training for individuals seeking to rebuild their lives. Through a 90-day recovery program, transitional and community housing, and ongoing alumni and employment supports, they help people break cycles of addiction and homelessness while building stable, purpose-filled futures. Rooted in a compassionate community and Christian faith, they believe no one is beyond hope.

The Calgary Dream Centre works in partnership with us at our Cliff Bungalow property, where they provide comprehensive case management to help residents build stability and move toward long-term independence

Partnerships like this are essential to supporting residents on their housing journey. This model allows us to focus on creating affordable homes, while the Calgary Dream Centre provides the care and support that helps folks build stability and community.

Where does your money go when you donate or fundraise for ?

Each dollar goes directly towards helping us building 45 transitional townhomes for families currently experiencing or at risk of homelessness. These will be more than just homes. They are a chance for families to gain support and create long-lasting stability. Your support is crucial in helping us create high quality housing at rents that are truly affordable.

What's even better is from now until August 31st, 2026, every donation made to us will be matched up to 50% through Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by Altalink.

HomeSpacers are back from the Congress in St. John's, inspired by the creative work that agencies across Canada are doing to create affordable housing. Now it's time to get to work, implementing the things we've learned to ramp up momentum for housing in Calgary. While we don't have enough affordable options, Calgary is punching way above our weight in the number of housing starts underway. More to come!

Meet our partner Vecova!

Vecova is a Calgary-based charity that supports people with disabilities and diverse needs to live full and meaningful lives. Their work spans housing, employment, mental health services, recreation, and community programs, with a focus on reducing barriers and increasing belonging.

We work with the Vecova team at Huntertown and Legacy on 5th where they provide 24/7 supports for their tenants.

Partnerships like this mean people have the help they need to maintain stable housing and autonomy. This model allows us to focus on creating and managing affordable homes, while Vecova provides the wrap around care and support that helps individuals build stability and community.
