Calgary Justice Film Festival Influencing positive change by sharing environmental and social justice films for free. We also show quarterly films in March and September.

CUFF Community Pick: Calgary Justice Film Festival 🎬 Following the International Premiere at CUFF 2025, SOMETHING BETTER CHANGE will be playing on Saturday, November 8 at The Confluence (Burnswest Theatre) as part of the Calgary Justice Film Festival. The film is free to attend and includes post-film discussion lead by MLA Joe Ceci. The CJFF Opening Ceremonies: Indigenous Lens will present an evening of reflection that honours the traditions and stories within Indigenous communities.

With a Welcome and Blessing from Elder Rod Scout, honour songs performed by Cheryle Chagnon-Greyeyes, and a dance by Kyle Young Pine. Remarks will be shared by Courtney Walcott, City Councillor Terry Wong, and Jennifer Thompson, President of The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland.

The event will also feature the art installation Bubbling Up by Grace Gee.

Oswaldo de Camargo: Between the Cold and the Music is a moving short documentary about poet Oswaldo de Camargo, his connection to music, and the fight against racism and the erasure of Black identity.

The film will be screened on Saturday, November 8, at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland. After the screening, enjoy a spoken word performance by the Calgary Poet Laureate Wakefield Brewster, who has been named a Social Poet, The Poet of The People, by The City of Calgary ✍️

Join us on Saturday, November 8, at 6:00pm at The Confluence for a screening of Burcu’s Angels, an inspiring short documentary that celebrates love, legacy, and chosen family ❤️

For three decades, Burcu’s Angels has offered a haven, a stage, and a sanctuary in Vancouver. Founded by Turkish q***r elder Burcu Özdemir, the store has become a cornerstone of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and a welcoming space for outcasts, dreamers, and seekers.

Following the film, stay for a post-screening discussion with Zack Beer from The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland and a special performance by Karla Marx.

The Calgary Justice Film Festival is happening Nov. 6-8, and we hope to see you there! The Confluence's Special Projects and Volunteer Manager, Zack Beer, will be one of the panelists speaking after the film Burcu's Angels.

This three-day event is free to attend and showcases films made locally and around the world that tackle issues of justice and human rights. Each screening includes a lively discussion featuring filmmakers or topic experts. During the festival, there is also a Peace Market featuring local crafts, arts and food vendors, as well as booths for local non-profits and NGOs.
