Thank you to the grade nine classes from the Apostles of Jesus School who were so much fun at our latest Robot Free Research presentation. And a BIG thank you to Lit Con at the Calgary Public Library for inviting AWCS in the Classroom to teach it.

Congratulations to our May Many Voices Winner, Keith Dobson!

May's prompt was “a hint of mischief.” Keith's piece, A Hint of Mischief, is a clever use of the prompt, ending with a reveal that leaves readers eager to imagine what happens next. It's featured on our website for you to read.

This month's prompt: moves like moonlight

Use the prompt however you like, in fiction, creative nonfiction, or poetry, and keep it under 500 words. Submissions are due by June 10.

Check out our website for more details and how to enter!

As part of our AWCS in the Classroom programming, we offer a course called “Robot-Free Research.” Here’s Kim teaching the program at St. Kateri Tekakwitha School last week.

What we love about these photos is that they capture three different questions, all met with lots of engaged little arms raised, showing the power of curiosity and critical thinking in action.

At AWCS, we believe it’s important to teach young people (and adults, too) the value of engaging their own brains, asking questions, researching thoughtfully, and developing the confidence to think critically and creatively on their own.

Or, as Kim says in her presentation: “Be a dinosaur.”

Get in touch with us if you’d like more information about AWCS in the Classroom or our “Robot-Free Research” course.

Somehow all of these kids ended up working in the arts.

The people behind AWCS were once bookworms, theatre kids, doodlers, storytellers, daydreamers, and probably a little too obsessed with organizing things (or maybe that's just me, Nicole R).

Turns out not much has changed.

Meet your AWCS team.

Open mics are happening across Alberta this week.

This monthly event continues to be one of the best ways to meet other creative people, hear new work, and be part of Alberta’s writing community in Calgary, Edmonton, Cochrane, and Lethbridge.

Join us on the last Wednesday of every month.
Registration encouraged on our website.

Casino volunteer shifts are filling up!

A huge thank you to everyone who has already signed up to support the AWCS Casino on July 20 & 21.

We still have a few spots remaining across select shifts, and every volunteer makes a real impact. One shift can be worth more than $3000 for AWCS programming and operations.

No experience necessary, and you’re welcome to sign up with a friend.
