September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

In Canada, the impacts of colonization continue to shape our communities, institutions, relationships, and everyday experiences. These impacts are felt across generations and remain woven into many of the systems in which we live and work.

While some days may pass without much reflection, September 30 invites us to pause and consider our history, where we are today, and the work that remains ahead of us.

Wearing Orange is a powerful way to show solidarity, honor residential school survivors, and remember the children who never made it home.

Every Child Matters.

We encourage you to participate in community events taking place in your area, create space for learning and reflection, and take time to honour Indigenous lives and losses that are part of our shared history.

The Confluence will be offering a variety of free programming all day, including free admission to exhibits in the cultural centre, programming in tipis on the land, educational walking tours and more. The site will also host the City of Calgary Orange Shirt Day Program from 9-10:30 am.

Kimmapiiypitsin
(pronounced GEE-maa-bee-bit-sin) is a profound Blackfoot word that embodies social solidarity, deep empathy, and caring for humans, animals, and Mother Earth.

From all of us at CASS,
Take good care of each other.

July 24th is International Self Care Day which promotes self-care as a vital foundation of good health care. This day is a reminder for people around the world to prioritize self-care and make it a part of their lifestyle.
Why does self-care matter? It matters because:
✨protects and maintains your physical and mental health and well-being
✨reduces stress & builds resilience
✨helps you cope with life’s challenges
✨helps keep your body and mind functioning well
✨Every bit of self-care you do contributes to a healthier you

Since self-care looks different for everyone, you can tailor the day to your specific needs. Here are a few ways to celebrate and prioritize your wellness:
🌻Spend time in Nature
⭐Practice Mindfulness (yoga, journaling, meditation)
💤 Focus on Daily Habits (sleeping, eating, drinking water)
🌍 Connect with your community/friends/family

When you take care of yourself to stay well, you are practicing self-care. Staying well includes taking care of your whole self: physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Disability Pride Month is celebrated in Canada every July to recognize the strength, resilience, and contributions of the disabled community. The grassroots movement champions disability as a natural part of human diversity while raising awareness against ableism and systemic barriers.

The Disability Pride Flag was originally created by Ann Magill in 2019 and updated in 2021 to be more accessible. The flag features a black background to mourn victims of ableist violence, and a diagonal stripe that cuts across the field, symbolizing breaking through societal barriers.

The stripe is made up of six colors:

Red – Physical disabilities
Gold – Neurodivergence
White – Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities
Blue – Psychiatric disabilities
Green – Sensory disabilities

Together, these colors show that disability spans across all borders and communities. Disability Pride is about visibility, joy, resistance, and belonging—for everyone, everywhere.
