đź’ˇHappy Tip Tuesday!
Today's Tip: Whether you are celebrating or not, Halloween traditions, decorations, and excitement can be overwhelming or frightening to people living with dementia. Here are a few ways you can mark the holiday in a more dementia-friendly way:
🍂Swap the scary or loud Halloween decor for neutral seasonal decorations. This still creates a festive atmosphere without causing overwhelm.
🍂If you want to partake in Halloween festivities, consider activities that can be relaxing. Some ideas include reading a seasonal book together, doing a craft, or listening to some music.
🍂Have a plan for how you will manage trick-or-treating. If the person living with dementia wants to interact with trick-or-treaters by handing out candy, make sure there is a familiar person present to assist. If you'd like to minimize disruption caused by trick-or-treaters, consider leaving a bowl of treats outside with a note instructing to take one.
