Building a stronger food system in York Region through collaboration and coordination

Join us for Food for Change: Advocating to End Food Insecurity, a discussion on how we can advocate to address food insecurity at its root: income. Taking place on November 10th from 9:30am-2:00pm at the Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall (Hall 3), this event will unite organizations, advocates, and community leaders and create a clear path towards collective action. By the end of the session, we will form a strategy and a series of advocacy actions we will take together.

Municipal elections are taking place on Monday, October 26th in York Region.

We are sharing why we vote:
✅ Food insecurity - for a future where everyone can afford to eat
✅ Housing - for more affordable housing and a future where everyone has a place to live
✅ Sustainability & climate - a future with more resilience, less waste, and access to growing spaces

Join us on Saturday, October 3 from 2:30–4:30 PM at Oak Ridges Community Centre for a free, interactive Letter-Writing Advocacy Workshop!

Hear from local speakers, learn how advocacy works, and get hands-on experience writing a letter to an elected official about an issue you care about. No advocacy experience is needed, and volunteer hours can be provided for those who need them!

Last month the Community Garden Network was proud to host it's third Annual Garden Tour!

The group visited four gardens, each with their own unique models and lessons to share with the group:

🌱 York Region Food Network London & Main Community Garden in Newmarket, a collective garden that continues to grow and expand along with the passion of its gardeners
🌱York Region Food Network Mulock Community Garden in Newmarket, one of York Regions's largest allotment gardens.
🌱Boreal Farms in King City, an innovative farm that focuses on drawing the interest of young people through agri-tech and sustainable practices.
🌱The Forester Collective Garden in Richmond Hill, a community space that has not only individual growing plots, but encourages members to collectively maintain the overall site and donation garden.

It was a day full of good conversations and connections. We cannot wait until next year's tour!!

We want to make advocacy easy for organizations and individuals in York Region!

The Government of Ontario is collecting feedback to inform the 2026 Budget. Submissions are being taken until January 30th, 2026.

As part of our effort to amplify community voices in York Region, we developed a practical resource to make it easy for non-profits and individuals to have their say on how the province invests.
