Soup season is upon us! We are pleased to be back in the kitchen at the Antigonish Farmers' Market Association for another round of Community Soup Gatherings. We aim to hold them twice a month, not necessarily every two weeks.

We provide a free meal: a bowl of hot soup, usually accompanied by a roll/biscuit and a dessert. Patrons may also take meals away.The rest of the soup is individually portioned and frozen for later distribution in our two community fridges.

We often have produce and other food items to give away.

This is a free event and is for everyone in the community. It is a safe space to meet, eat, share, and build community.

Attention: though parking is restricted at the Farmer's Market parking lot due to the Eastern Nova Scotia Exhibition, the Community Fridge is still accessible. Currently, we are stuffing it to the brim with loads of bread products, corn and lots of other fresh veggies.

The fridge and pantry at the library will be stocked with the same items, however, the library will be closed both Sunday and Monday.

Come down and take what you need.

What an abundance of food available in our fridge and pantry at the The People's Place: Antigonish Town and County Library! Thanks to the Antigonish Community Food Bank, there are loads of caulifower, heads of cabbage, micro greens, some carrots and onions, a variety of breads, as well as period products.

Thanks to Sodexo Morrison Hall, there is a variety of frozen prepared meals, including chicken soup, split pea soup, waffles, pork, rice, sausage casserole, mac and cheese, and more!

Just a reminder that the library will be closed on Sunday (usual hours) and also on Monday, due to the provincial holiday.

Don't hesitate to head down for some of this free food. We would love to see this food taken before closing time on Saturday at 5pm.

Thank you to whomever left us the note at the library pantry. We are happy you loved our soup. It was created by Tony Blackburn at our last Community Soup Gathering in June.

Also, our community fridge may be the only one in the country to offer haggis! With our town hosting the longest continously running highland games in North America, it is only natural to share some haggis! Thanks for the haggis, Sodexo Morrison Hall!

With our Community Soup Gatherings taking a summer break, we are grateful to have the frozen meals, donated by Sodexo Morrison Hall , to stock our fridges and freezers. Due to the Highland Games parade yesterday, we did the donation pick up early this Sunday morning. We will be getting more meals this week, so please, take only what you need.

PS: the round containers are very reusable and handy!

It's that time again! Please join us on Sunday, June 28, 2026, for our Community Soup Gathering.

This is a free event. Everyone is welcome at the table.

We will be taking a break from the Soup Gatherings for July and August, but will resume in September.

Our fridges and pantries will remain operational as usual during the summer months.

We are so grateful to the Antigonish Kinsmen Club for a very generous $1000 donation. This donation will enable us to continue to provide emergency food to the community through our two fridges and pantries, and through our soup program.

The fridge and pantry at the Market are inaccessible for vehicles today and tomorrow. Our downtown Library location is open and accessible during regular library hours (9am- 9pm on Tuesday and Wednesday). Any donations should be directed to the library location during the parking lot construction at the Market.
