- Reading and reference materials (quiet time in the library or borrowing from our resource selection);

- Community referrals (if we can’t help, we will try to find someone who can)

Last night, we wrapped up our three-part Wills & Estate Planning Seminar series with an informative session led by Ännika Anderson de Ángel from Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services. Thank you, Ännika, for sharing your expertise on final arrangements, funeral planning, prepaying costs, and the important decisions families may face when planning ahead.⁠⁠
We were grateful to welcome participants from our Care for the Caregiver program to this season’s seminar series, and we extend our sincere thanks to everyone who joined us. ⁠⁠
While topics surrounding future planning and end-of-life decisions can be difficult to discuss, they are some of the most thoughtful and meaningful gifts we can leave for those we love.⁠⁠

Yesterday, our volunteers had the privilege of learning from David, our Children and Youth Coordinator, during our volunteer training class. ⁠⁠
David shared valuable insight into how grief can affect children and youth at different stages of development, and how we can provide compassionate, age-appropriate support during some of life's most difficult moments. ⁠⁠
We are grateful for David's expertise, passion, and dedication to supporting children, youth, and families in our community. Thank you for helping equip our volunteers with the knowledge and confidence to make a meaningful difference.⁠⁠⁠

Dr. Chu graduated from the University of Alberta School of Medicine before completing his surgical training at the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey Eye Institute in London, Ontario.⁠⁠
As a comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in eyelid, cataract, and glaucoma surgeries, Dr. Chu has performed thousands of procedures across BC and Ontario.⁠⁠
He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at UBC, maintains practices in Abbotsford, Surrey, and Coquitlam, and holds hospital privileges at Chilliwack General Hospital and Abbotsford Regional Hospital.⁠⁠
He states: “I wanted to volunteer and contribute back to the local community with a palpable result that fit my schedule and personality and skill set. Joining the Abbotsford hospice board was a good fit.”⁠⁠

Dr. Andrew Evans is the President at Summit Pacific College in Abbotsford, where he has taught for the past 14 years. He earned his doctorate from Gordon-Conwell Seminary in 2016.⁠⁠
His experience with personal loss, combined with his passion for education and mentoring young people, has shaped his commitment to supporting others through grief and ensuring compassionate care is available to those who need it.⁠⁠

Jeevin is a Senior Relationship Manager with Scotiabank’s local Commercial Banking Group, providing financing, deposit, and cash management solutions to local businesses.⁠⁠
Born and raised in Abbotsford, Jeevin graduated from both high school and university locally.⁠⁠
He joined AHGSS because of the meaningful impact its services have on patients and families. Jeevin is passionate about helping ensure compassionate hospice care and meaningful grief and loss support remain available to our local community.⁠⁠

Harsimran is a CPA and Manager with MNP in Abbotsford, where he works in the Assurance Services team, supporting businesses and organizations with their accounting and financial reporting needs. He has called Abbotsford home since 2001 and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of the Fraser Valley.⁠⁠
Having grown up in Abbotsford, Harsimran values the opportunity to give back to the community that has played an important role in his life. As a member of the Abbotsford Hospice and Grief Support Society Board, he is proud to support the Society’s work and help bring greater awareness to the services available to individuals and families in the community.⁠⁠
