October is Occupational Therapy Month!

From helping children develop everyday skills like getting dressed, eating and playing, to finding creative ways to make activities more accessible, our Occupational Therapists (OTs) play an important role in supporting children and families at FVCDC.

Every child has different strengths, abilities and goals, and our OTs work alongside families to find strategies, tools and supports that work best for them.

Sometimes that means building fine motor skills, exploring sensory activities, adapting equipment or helping a child participate more independently at home, at school and in their community.

This month, we're celebrating our incredible Occupational Therapy team and the difference they make for the children, youth and families we support.

What a day on the golf course! ⛳️

Our 2026 Swing with Bling Charity Golf Classic took place on September 17, bringing together an incredible group of golfers, sponsors, volunteers and community supporters, all in support of the children, youth and families we serve at Fraser Valley Child Development Centre.

For some of the families we support, wandering or elopement is a very real safety concern.

When a vulnerable child goes missing, especially a child who may be non-speaking, have difficulty recognizing danger or be unable to ask for help, every minute matters.

One of our FVCDC parents recently reached out to us about House of Commons Petition e-7703 and the work of Indigo Alert Canada. The petition is calling for a national framework for alerts when vulnerable people go missing, but their circumstances do not meet the criteria for an AMBER Alert.

This is an issue that hits close to home for this family and other families in our community.

We encourage you to take a few minutes to learn more about the petition and the proposal. If you would like to support it, the official House of Commons petition is open to Canadian citizens and residents.

Canada's Amber Alert only triggers on suspected abduction. A non-verbal autistic child, or an older adult with dementia, who wanders isn't covered. Sign the petition and email your representative to help create an Indigo Alert for vulnerable people of any age.
