The new version of Senior Lunch and Learn, now known as From Surviving to Thriving (FS2T) will start up for the year on Tuesday, September 29th, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Our new location, (thanks to the generous spirit of St. Matthew's) , will be at St. Matthew's Anglican Church, 2010 Guilford Drive, Abbotsford. (Just off Marshall Road). There is ample parking at this location and ground level entry -- no stairs to contend with! Come in the main front doors. St. Matthew's has tables set up in their sanctuary. This is where they host food events in their church.
Do you have an orange shirt? If so, please wear it. If not, you should not stress over this detail. We will be hosting Elder Jean Wassegijig as our guest speaker. Elder Jean is Anishinabekwew of the Odawa and Ojibway Nations in northern Ontario. She now resides in Langley, She has had a career working in Corrections in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. She has joined our group several times before and we welcome her back to learn more from her. The theme will centre around Truth and Reconciliation Day, which occurs on September 30th. Join us as we work to create the right relationships with our indigenous communities. Elder Jean will read from her recently published book, My Voice, and provide more teaching and information on Truth and Reconciliation Day.
The menu for the day is fried chicken from Mary Brown's and salads and a blueberry dessert. So, if nothing else, come for that.
I know that we have all had a lot of change in our community in the last three months. And we are asking you to work through yet another change. We not only changed the name of the event, but also the location. BUT the same great opportunities for socializing, enjoying lunch and learning new things will be there at St. Matthews, along with some new people to get to know and appreciate. Come and join the fun. I'm looking forward to seeing you all again.
Attached is a poster outlining the next two events. Note that the FS2T on October 13th will be a flu and covid immunization clinic. A representative from TravelVax will be present to administer flu and covid shots, as well as boosters for Tetanus and Diphtheria (if you have not had one for more than 10 years). The representative will also speak about the importance of immunizations for adult/senior populations.
And we have a line up of interesting topics for the rest of the year and are always looking for more suggestions.
