When Tamara volunteers at our Windsor Op Shop, she brings not only years of retail experience, but also a deep personal understanding of why the work of the Epilepsy Foundation matters 💜

Diagnosed with epilepsy later in life, Tamara experienced frequent seizures and tried many medications before ultimately undergoing brain surgery. This affected her memory and word-finding abilities, meaning she could no longer continue working as a speech pathologist.

Volunteering became a new chapter.

Over the past 18 months at Windsor, Tamara has found purpose in customer service, helping shoppers find what they’re looking for, supporting her shop manager, and contributing to a cause that is incredibly close to her heart.

She says volunteering is something she’d highly recommend — whether it’s for someone starting out in the workforce, wanting to build confidence and interpersonal skills, or simply looking for structure, connection and community. And for Tamara, the Windsor team has become a big part of that.

Thank you, Tamara, for sharing your story and for everything you bring to the Windsor op shop 👏

Every Wednesday, Rachel is part of the friendly volunteer team at our Kilsyth op shop, helping keep the store organised, welcoming and ready for customers 💜

Rachel enjoys the hands-on side of volunteering - from sorting clothes to cleaning and keeping the shop looking tidy and inviting for everyone who walks through the doors.

While she doesn’t have a personal connection to epilepsy, she loves being part of a positive environment where people work together and enjoy each other’s company.

For Rachel, one of the best parts of volunteering is the friendships that come with it. She says it’s a lot of fun and a great way to meet new people.

Thank you, Rachel, for the care and pride you bring to our Kilsyth op shop each week 👏

For Dave, volunteering at our Sale op shop has been just as much about friendship as it has been about giving back 💜

Living with epilepsy himself, Dave has spent the past 10 months as part of the volunteer team, bringing plenty of humour, conversation and community spirit to the shop.

What he enjoys most is simple - making friends. From sharing laughs with the team to chatting with customers, Dave loves the social side of volunteering and the connections that come with it.

Dave also proudly wears a tattoo on his arm representing epilepsy. It’s a powerful reflection of both his lived experience and the pride he takes in being part of the epilepsy community.

He’d encourage anyone thinking about volunteering to give it a go: get out of the house, meet people, have a laugh and enjoy being part of something positive.

Thank you, Dave, for the fun, friendship and energy you bring to our Sale op shop 👏

Tessie has been part of our Bairnsdale op shop volunteer team for the past 2 years, and she’s here for the people as much as the purpose 💜

With no personal connection to epilepsy, Tessie came along looking for a way to give back to her community - and stayed for the friendships that followed.

She says the best part of volunteering is meeting new people and building those everyday connections that come from working alongside a friendly, supportive team.

Tessie also loves that the Op Shop is a welcoming place for the community - somewhere people can come in, have a browse, and find something special at a great price.

Thank you, Tessie, for the kindness and community spirit you bring to our Bairnsdale op shop 👏

Winnie brings a creative, community-minded energy to our Seddon op shop, where she’s been volunteering for the past year 💜

A musician and teacher, Winnie balances her time so she can stay connected to the community in meaningful ways - and volunteering with the Epilepsy Foundation is one of those anchors.

What she values most is the sense of community behind it all. For Winnie, it’s not just about the Op Shop itself, but the shared purpose and the people who make it feel like something bigger.

She also loves the everyday experience of the shop - a great selection of clothes, a welcoming location, and the people who bring it all to life.

Thank you, Winnie, for the creativity, warmth and community spirit you bring to our Seddon op shop 👏

Tony has been volunteering at our Sale op shop for the past 18 months, and he’s the kind of volunteer who’s always in the middle of the action 💜

With no personal connection to epilepsy, Tony got involved for the community connection - and quickly found his groove on the shop floor.

From chatting with customers to getting donated furniture cleaned, sorted and ready for display, Tony plays a big role in helping the store look its best and keeping things moving behind the scenes.

He says the best part of volunteering is the people - meeting new faces, working alongside others, and having plenty of fun along the way.

And in true Tony style… he even created an AI “Super Volunteer” video to bring a bit of extra personality and humour to his involvement.

Thank you, Tony, for the energy, effort and fun you bring to our Sale op shop every week 👏

At our Croydon op shop, Marie brings something truly special to the volunteer team — a deep, personal connection to the very beginnings of the Epilepsy Foundation 💜

Marie’s mother-in-law, Mary Davis, founded the Epilepsy Foundation back in the 1960s, and Marie has been connected to the organisation ever since. Today, one of the ways she continues that legacy is through volunteering at the Croydon op shop.

For Marie, it’s about more than just giving time. It’s about helping others, meeting new people, and contributing to raising vital funds that support people living with epilepsy - something she’s been close to for most of her life.

She describes volunteering as a genuinely pleasant experience, made even better by the warm environment and the lovely people she works alongside.

Thank you, Marie, for the connection, care and continuity you bring to our Croydon op shop 👏
