In haematology and oncology, nurses play a vital role in supporting patients through diagnosis, treatment and recovery - providing not only clinical care, but also reassurance, advocacy and human connection during some of life’s most challenging moments.

Featured is Epworth Freemasons’ Specialist Haematology Nurse Coordinator – Cell Therapy, Mary Sharlyn Benemerito, whose work supports patients and teams in delivering safe, coordinated care throughout their treatment journey.

The Snowdome Foundation applauds a significant milestone for Australian patients living with multiple myeloma.

The announcement of government-funded access to the CAR T-cell therapy Carvykti, as a fourth-line treatment, is a major step forward in improving access to life-changing therapies.

This milestone is the result of tireless advocacy by patients, clinicians, and the broader community, who have worked to ensure these breakthrough treatments are within reach. Patients who were once waiting are now willing, ready - and able - to access this therapy.

While this is a significant step, it’s also a reminder of the importance of continuing this momentum. Access, equity, and earlier availability of innovative treatments like CAR T-cell therapy remain critical.

The Snowdome Foundation remains committed to advocating for equitable access to next-generation therapies for all Australians living with blood cancer.

Thank you to Snowdome Patron Sam Neill, advocate Geoffrey Nyssen, and Professor Miles Prince for standing with Snowdome to speak up for something that matters deeply.

CAR T-cell therapy is transforming outcomes for people with blood cancer, offering hope where there was once very little.

Together, they are advocating for this treatment to be more accessible, so every Australian who needs it has the same chance to benefit, no matter their circumstances or where they live.

On World Laboratory Day, we recognise the people behind the scenes driving discovery and innovation in blood cancer research.

At the Epworth Centre for Immunotherapies and Snowdome Laboratories (ECISL), teams are advancing world-class care through immunotherapies, clinical trials and research, helping to improve outcomes for patients with blood cancer.

Established through a partnership between the Epworth Medical Foundation and the Snowdome Foundation, ECISL is proudly 100 per cent donor funded and supports the development of next-generation treatments, including CAR T-cell therapy.

Today, we acknowledge the vital work happening in our laboratories and the impact it is making for patients.

The Snowdome Foundation is proud to support research led by Dr Paul Yeh at Monash University and Monash Health.

Dr Yeh is a clinician-researcher who combines patient care with leading the Blood Cancer Biomarkers Laboratory at Monash University. His work has driven the development of diagnostic tests now used in Australian hospitals, reflecting a strong track record of translating research into real-world impact.

Dr Yeh’s research will focus on identifying early, symptom-free changes in the blood that may signal the risk of aggressive cancers. By enabling earlier detection and potential prevention, this work aims to identify at-risk individuals before blood cancer takes hold.

In collaboration with Epworth, this research is exploring how the gut microbiome may influence treatment outcomes in multiple myeloma, helping to advance more personalised and effective care for patients.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary with a refreshed name and vibrant new brand, MY Fun Run Mount Eliza returned on Sunday 15 March, with perfect weather to match the occasion.

Since the event’s inception, MY Fun Run has raised over $500,000 to fund two multiple myeloma research projects. Funds from this year’s event were directed to Prof. Jane Oliaro’s research at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, which is seeking to improve the durability of CAR T-cell therapy for myeloma patients using specially produced “armoured” CAR T-cells.

We are pleased to share that the 2026 event raised $44,000. We extend our thanks and congratulations to Geoff Nyssen, and everyone involved in MY Fun Run Mount Eliza, including the sponsors, donors, participants and volunteers.
