At just three months old, Kayden was rushed to hospital struggling to breathe. Years of hospital visits, steroid treatments and sleepless nights followed.

When Kayden and his sister Maddie attended a Respiratory Care WA community outreach session, things started to change.

They received the right diagnosis, learned how to use their puffers correctly and were given personalised asthma management plans.

For the first time, their family felt confident they had the knowledge and support to manage their children's asthma.

💙 This EOFY, your donation will help more Western Australian children and families access life-changing respiratory care, education and support through our outreach programs and Children's Respiratory Hubs.

No two days are the same for our Community Outreach Coordinator, Melanie.

One day she’s delivering education in the community. The next, she’s providing diagnostic testing and support that can change a person’s health journey.

Through her work, Melanie sees the gaps in care that leave vulnerable families without timely support, education and diagnosis. She also sees the difference it makes when those gaps are closed.

"Melanie explained what asthma actually was, how it was affecting my children’s lungs and how to properly use their medication. For the first time in years, I finally felt like I had answers." — Corrine, mum to Maddie and Kayden

This EOFY, your donation can help us reach further, earlier, and into communities where respiratory care can’t wait.

No family should have to navigate childhood asthma alone.

Yet too often, children with asthma fall between hospital, specialist and GP care, leaving families to manage a complex system on their own.

That's why Respiratory Care WA's Children's Respiratory Hubs were created, bringing together specialist expertise and community support to improve access to coordinated respiratory care for children across WA.

In a new Medical Forum article, paediatric respiratory and sleep specialist Dr Stephen Oo and our CEO Rael Rivers share the story behind the first pilot hub and the growing demand for community-based asthma care.

Has your family visited one of our hubs? We'd love to hear about your experience in the comments below 💙

Your lungs 🫁 start to heal the moment you stop smoking.

Many people don’t realise just how quickly the body begins to recover, or the impact to***co smoke can have on respiratory health.

To***co smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals and is a major trigger for respiratory conditions including asthma and COPD.

This World No To***co Day, if you're thinking about quitting, you don't have to do this alone. Support is available!

Contact Quitline (13 7848), talk to your GP, our respiratory educators or a loved one you trust.

Every step toward quitting is a step toward better lung health and so much more. 💙

This National Reconciliation Week, the theme “All In” reminds us that better health outcomes begin with listening, trust, and culturally safe care. 🖤💛❤️

For Ballardong Noongar siblings Kayden and Maddie, respiratory outreach through Arche Health - Aboriginal Health Team and Respiratory Care WA gave their family the support and answers they had been missing for years, in a place where they felt heard.

“Having care in a place where we felt comfortable and heard made a huge difference.” — Corrine, Ballardong Noongar Mum

Together, we’re helping break down barriers to culturally safe respiratory care for First Nations families across WA.

🖤💛❤️ Meet Ballardong Noongar brother and sister, Kayden and Maddie, our ambassadors for this year’s Tax Appeal, living on Wadjuk Noongar Boodja.

From a very young age, both experienced breathing difficulties and were often too unwell to fully enjoy school, daycare and time with friends. Frequent hospital visits, steroids and sleepless nights became part of family life.

Everything changed after attending a free outreach clinic through Respiratory Care WA and Arche Health - Aboriginal Health Team where the family finally received the education, support and the correct diagnosis they had been missing.

Today, we love hearing that Kayden and Maddie are breathing easier, sleeping better and simply enjoying being kids again. 💙

Your donation this tax time can help more children and families across WA access life-changing respiratory care, education and early diagnosis close to home.

Behind every statistic is someone wanting to keep up with everyday moments that matter most. 💙

May is 🫁 Lung Awareness Month and we’re encouraging everyone to prioritise their lung health and seek support early if something doesn’t feel right.

At Respiratory Care WA, we provide free lung function testing, education and support services to help people better understand and manage their respiratory health before conditions become more serious. As we head into winter, don’t ignore ongoing symptoms like breathlessness, wheezing or a persistent cough. Early support can make a real difference. 💙
