🎓 Congratulations to our latest Diploma of Building and Construction students!

After commencing their studies in June 2025, 15 students have now completed all 16 training blocks at Master Builders WA! 👏

With final assessments being marked and qualifications soon to be issued, our graduates are taking an important step forward in their building and construction careers.

Congratulations to all 15 students on this achievement!

Through industry-led training and professional development, we’re proud to help build the skills and capability of WA’s construction workforce, supporting a stronger building industry for the future. 🏗️

🎉 Today marks one year of FutureBuild Academy!

Twelve months ago, Master Builders WA launched FutureBuild with a clear mission: to make it easier for WA builders to take on apprentices and grow the skilled workforce our industry needs.

One year on, we’re proud to have achieved our first-year target: 10 apprentices employed, with young men and women from metropolitan and regional WA beginning rewarding careers in construction.

Together with our host employers, we’ve laid an important foundation for the future.

As a Group Training Organisation, FutureBuild Academy is taking the complexity out of employing and managing apprentices, while providing the support they need to succeed.

We’re excited to build on this momentum and welcome more apprentices and host employers as FutureBuild continues to strengthen WA’s future workforce.

Defence, mining and construction all need more workers.

More supply is coming. But there’s still more work to do. 🧱

Getting Cardup Brickworks back online will help, but meeting WA’s Housing Accord targets will take more bricks and more skilled tradies.

MBAWA will continue working with the State Government and industry to increase capacity and get more homes built sooner.

WA’s housing pipeline is strong, but it’s still not enough to meet the homes our growing State needs. 🏠

MBAWA forecasts 116,630 new homes will commence over the next five years, but that would still leave WA more than 11,000 homes short of its National Housing Accord target.

The challenge isn’t a lack of demand to build. Our industry continues to face workforce shortages, rising costs, land constraints, building material pressures and increasing red tape.

More homes means increasing our capacity to build them.

We need more workers, more development-ready land, reliable access to building materials and fewer barriers to getting homes out of the ground.

That’s how we increase housing supply and help make housing more affordable for Western Australians.

That’s why MBAWA welcomes the State Government’s announcement yesterday supporting increased brick production in WA. 🧱

The current brick shortage is putting pressure on construction timelines, builders and their clients at a time when WA urgently needs more quality homes.

Restarting Austral’s Cardup brickworks is a positive step, but ensuring a reliable supply of bricks across the market must remain a priority.

MBAWA will continue working with Government and industry on practical solutions to boost local production, improve material availability and give builders the certainty they need to keep projects moving.

Taking on an apprentice has never been easier, thanks to the GTO Wage Subsidy.

This initiative supports eligible building and construction businesses to employ more apprentices by subsidising up to 75% of their wages, reducing upfront costs and helping grow the industry workforce.

The expanded subsidy is available from 1 July, but places are limited! You’ll need to act quickly to avoid missing out.
