The coldest and wettest time of the year ❄️☔

Makuru is also known as the Season of Fertility, reflecting renewal, connection to Country, and the continuation of life cycles.

Traditionally, it is a time for caring for family, seeking shelter, storytelling, and sharing cultural knowledge during the colder weather.

Around the lakes and rivers of the South West, you may begin to notice an influx of Mali (Black Swans) as they prepare to nest and breed.

We respectfully acknowledge the Noongar people as the Traditional Custodians of the South-West land.

Reconciliation is a shared responsibility of all Australians.

It begins with listening with empathy, learning from our shared history, and walking together with respect.

While we cannot change the past, we can shape the future.

At MercyCare we are committed to playing our part in the journey toward reconciliation. 🖤💛❤️

This National Reconciliation Week, we reflect on the role we all play in building a more respectful, inclusive, and united future.

The 2026 theme, All In, is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day. It reminds us that reconciliation is not passive, and meaningful change requires all of us to listen, learn, and take action together.

At MercyCare, we recognise that reconciliation is an ongoing journey grounded in truth-telling, respect, and shared responsibility. We remain committed to creating spaces where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices are heard, relationships are strengthened, and understanding can continue to grow.

Reconciliation is reflected in the everyday actions we take across our services, workplaces, and communities. This week, and every week, we encourage everyone to consider how they can be part of meaningful and lasting change.

Today, on National Sorry Day, we come together to acknowledge the pain and ongoing impact experienced by the Stolen Generations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families, communities, and culture.

National Sorry Day is an opportunity to reflect, listen, and honour the strength and resilience of survivors, their families, and communities.

Across MercyCare, staff, clients and volunteers have taken part in decorating native flowers as a symbol of remembrance, reflection, and hope for healing. These shared moments create space for meaningful conversations and deeper understanding.

As we mark this important day, we reaffirm our commitment to walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with respect, truth-telling, and reconciliation at the centre of what we do.

Happy National Volunteer Week 💛

Volunteers play an important role in creating meaningful connections and enriching the lives of those around them. Whether it is through sharing conversations, supporting activities, offering companionship, or simply bringing a smile to someone’s day, every act of kindness makes a lasting difference.

At MercyCare, we are proud to have 175 volunteers who contribute across our early learning centres, aged care communities, and wider services.

A big THANK YOU to all the incredible volunteers who generously give their time, compassion, and energy to support others within our communities.

Your contribution matters, your time is appreciated, and the difference you make is truly meaningful. 💛

To every young person navigating school, family pressures or uncertainty:
You don’t have to do it alone. Sometimes life feels confusing or overwhelming, and that’s completely okay. You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
We’re here to walk alongside you, listen, and support you through the tough stuff - so you can keep moving forward, one step at a time.

National Sorry Day is coming up – Tuesday 26 May 2026

Next week, we pause to acknowledge National Sorry Day, a significant day of remembrance for the Stolen Generations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families, communities, and cultures.

It’s a time to reflect on the ongoing impact of these policies, to listen, to learn, and to stand together in recognition and respect.

Across MercyCare, our staff, clients and volunteers will be decorating native flowers, creating space for reflection, conversation, and acknowledgement.

We encourage everyone to take a moment on 26 May to learn more and consider how we can all contribute to healing and reconciliation.

Music has a way of reaching places words sometimes can’t 🎶💛

At MercyCare Maddington, volunteers Colleen and Mark are bringing warmth, connection, and joy to residents through their acoustic performances.

What began as a shared passion for music has grown into something truly meaningful, with their duo “432 Heartz” creating moments of calm, connection, and nostalgia for those they visit. Residents are often seen tapping along, singing familiar lyrics, and lighting up as songs unlock cherished memories.

This Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating people like Colleen & Mark and the meaningful impact volunteers make every day. 🌟

This IDAHOBIT, MercyCare staff across our services were encouraged to come together to reflect, connect, and recognise the importance of inclusion, visibility, and belonging.

From a morning tea at Ord Street to gatherings across our various sites, the day provided an opportunity to acknowledge and support our LGBTQIA+ colleagues, clients, and community members.

At MercyCare, we remain committed to creating safe, inclusive, and welcoming spaces where every person feels respected, valued, and empowered to be themselves.

Together, we're continuing to foster a culture of compassion, acceptance, and belonging.
