This week, members of Soroptimist International Townsville Breakwater were delighted to welcome Deb and Mekarla from Baby Give Back as special guests at our networking meeting.

Deb and Mekarla shared insights into the incredible work Baby Give Back does to support local families experiencing hardship, helping ensure babies and young children have access to the essential items they need to thrive. Through programs providing clothing bundles, safe start boxes and emergency relief support, the organisation is making a real difference in communities across Queensland.

We were also inspired to learn about the many volunteering opportunities available, giving community members a chance to contribute their time and skills to support local families in need.
A big thank you to Deb and Mekarla for taking the time to share their story and the impact of this wonderful organisation.

💜 If you'd like to learn more or find out how you can help, head over to the Baby Give Back Townsville page or their website babygiveback.org and see how you can get involved. Every donation, volunteer hour and act of kindness helps give children the best possible start in life.

💙 We’re supporting the next generation of strong young First Nations women 💙

We're proud to support the ‘Ya'athu United Girls Team with a donation that helps these incredible young women come together, train, connect and grow through sport.

We especially love their beautiful new jerseys, which tell a powerful story of connection and belonging. The design reflects girls travelling from different Countries across North Queensland to meet and train together, with Ross River, the beach, Magnetic Island (turtle), and the waterways that connect our region all woven into the artwork. At its heart is a meeting place, symbolising unity, friendship and the strength that is forged from coming together.

These jerseys are more than a uniform. They're a celebration of culture, connection, Country and the power of bringing people together. 🌊🐢✨

Ya’hthu United is creating opportunities for young women to build confidence, health, leadership and lifelong connections, and we're honoured to play a small part in supporting their journey.

Well done to everyone involved. We can't wait to see what the girls achieve this season! 💙🏉

❤️💛🖤💙💚

A huge thank you to the dedicated Justice Townsville North staff and young people who collaborated to create this incredibly special artwork for Soroptimist International Townsville Breakwater Club.

This beautiful banner celebrates our ongoing partnership and reflects shared values of protection, community, empowerment, healing, and cultural connection. Every element was thoughtfully chosen by the young people, with guidance from First Nations staff, to tell a meaningful story. From the sun, representing women as the "givers of life", to the dugong and calf symbolising care for women and children, and the turtle representing protection and navigation, each image carries significance and purpose.

We were proud to showcase the artwork at our recent Trivia Night, where it sparked genuine interest, conversation, and admiration from attendees. It was wonderful to see people take the time to learn about the stories and cultural meanings woven throughout the banner and to be able to give the young people a hands on project to work on that will be appreciated well into the future.

Thank you to everyone involved for sharing your creativity, culture, and insights. Together, you've created something that will continue to inspire conversations and celebrate the strength of community.
