Thank you to all our volunteers and those who support them 👏

National Youth Volunteer Week celebrates the energy, ideas and impact of young volunteers across Australia, and we think the 20 young volunteers currently in our Unit are shining examples of the positive impact 16-24 year olds can have in the community.

Young volunteers juggle school, uni, apprenticeships, work or other commitments while still making time to attend training to learn and practice skills and operations to serve the communities they live in. They bring new ideas, enthusiasm and energy to our organisation and we're thankful for their committmrent and contributions.

In recent months, many of our Unit volunteers (too many to name!) have received recognition 🏅 for length of service (1yr certificates, 5 yr citations or 10+yr medal/clasp), the SES Emergency Response Medal and/or the Qld Fire Emergency Response Medal (for Covid Assistance).
Well done to everyone who has received awards (some are pictured here) and thank you for your continued service to SES and the community 👏

Our Townsville and Thuringowa Group members were put through their paces this week, in a training activity that tested and challenged them across many different SES skill sets, bringing together many of the skills they've been learning over the past month or more. Well done to all involved - they excelled and achieved everything that was thrown their way.

Over the weekend, 14 new SES recruits spent their time 'learning the ropes' (and stretchers, communications and other skills) as part of their journey to become part of our team. We look forward to welcoming them to our Unit and wish them all the best for the next weekend of their recruit course.
