One of the values that sits at the heart of everything we do at Towards Better is a simple but powerful belief:
**Everyone has competency. Everyone can contribute.**
Too often, people with disability are viewed through the lens of what they can't do rather than what they can bring. We believe the opposite.
Our job is not to lower expectations. Our job is to discover when a person is at their best, understand their interests, strengths, gifts and motivations, and then work creatively to uncover pathways where those contributions can be valued and recognised.
This is the foundation of Customised Employment.
When we start with the expectation that people are competent, we begin asking different questions:
✔️ What does this person do well?
✔️ When do they come alive?
✔️ What skills, interests and passions are waiting to be noticed?
✔️ How can a workplace benefit from those contributions?
We genuinely believe that all people can contribute meaningfully through employment and valued roles in their communities. However, making this a reality often requires different tools, strategies, partnerships and ways of thinking.
That's where practice matters.
If you're a family member, support provider, support coordinator, service manager or organisation wanting the people around someone to work from these same beliefs, we can help.
Through training, mentoring and workforce development, we help teams build the mindset, skills and practical strategies needed to move beyond service delivery and towards genuine contribution, community participation and meaningful employment outcomes.
Because when we expect competence, we start seeing possibilities that were there all along.
Would you like you or your loved ones Support Workers, SIL Workers, NDIS Staff or Allied Health Professionals to learn how to put this into practice? Learn more about our training, mentoring and workforce development services:
