Zonta Garden City Toowoomba fundraiser is the latest production by The Toowoomba Repertory Theatre presents EDUCATING RITA.

Educating Rita is one of W***y Russell’s best-known plays, drawing on every emotion to produce a profoundly moving, yet also hilarious two-hander.

Educating Rita is a witty yet poignant look at a working-class woman’s attempts to change her social circumstances through pursuit of an Open University qualification. Rita is a twenty-six-year-old working-class hairdresser, married to Denny and living round the corner from her family. She has enrolled on an Open University course in an attempt to discover herself and better her circumstances. Rita has realized that she is out of step with most of her family and friends as she is not prepared to settle for what she has already got. Her tutor is Frank, a frustrated poet and academic, who works as a lecturer at a university. He is an alcoholic and, to begin with, is less than enthusiastic about taking Rita on as a student. However, he is fascinated by her take on life and realizes that she has academic potential. Under his cynical guidance, Rita grows in confidence and understanding.

Toowoomba Garden City Zonta Club – Birthing Kit Assembly Day

Last Friday, members and friends of the Toowoomba Garden City Zonta Club came together for a successful Birthing Kit Assembly Day, assembling 200 clean birthing kits to support mothers and babies in developing communities.

It was wonderful to see members Sheree, Kate, Jess, Heike, Lyn and Jane, along with friends of Zonta Meg and Colleen, working together to make a difference.

A special thank you to Lyn for organising and hosting the day. Your generosity, teamwork and commitment will have a meaningful impact on the lives of women and families around the world.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported our Birthing Kit Foundation Australia fundraiser 💕

Thanks to the generosity of some wonderful donors, we raised an incredible $600! This will enable our club to purchase another 120 birthing kits for women in developing countries, helping to reduce childbirth-related infections and improve safe birthing outcomes.

Your kindness and support will make a real difference to mothers and babies around the world. Thank you for helping us continue this important work. 🌸

Last night, Zonta proudly awarded Member of the Month to Natalie Fogarty.

This recognition is a special honour within our club, acknowledging members who are making a meaningful contribution—whether those efforts are big or small, visible or unseen.

Much of what Natalie has been doing has been happening quietly, but it has made a real difference to our club and to the lives of women and children, both locally and around the world.

Happy Volunteer Week, Toowoomba 💛

If we were to imagine what Zonta superheroes look like, we’d see a strong and diverse group of people, united by purpose, compassion, and a shared commitment to building a better world for women and girls.

But the truth is—we don’t have to imagine them.

They are right here in our Toowoomba community.

Every day, our Zonta members give their time, energy, and heart to support women and girls locally and beyond. They speak up for human rights, stand beside those who need it most, and strengthen our community in ways that often go unseen—but are deeply felt.
