The Museum of Health aims to bring the Toowoomba Hospital and Baillie Henderson Hospital historical, cultural, and social collection of stories to life so that our region’s history of medicine and healthcare can be preserved for future generations. A wonderful visit from the Hogg family for their 2026 reunion. The Hogg family are descendants of Dr James and Marth Hogg, the first family to live in the house which is now the Museum of Health in 1890.

History of the Nurses Cap 👩🏼‍⚕️❤️‍🩹

Originating in the early Christian Era, this iconic headpiece evolved into the recognisable white cap we associate with nursing today, thanks to pioneers like Florence Nightingale.

Did you know that the Bellevue Training School in NYC was one of the first to adopt unique caps for its graduates? 🎓 Each nursing school in Australia developed its own style, making the cap a symbol of pride for nurses across the nation.

Join us at the Museum to explore the different styles of nursing caps worn throughout the decades and learn how this piece of uniform not only kept hair in place but also celebrated the dedication of nurses.
