We're working towards redesignation as a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 2027 — a commitment to continue protecting what makes Noosa unique, while supporting thriving communities and a resilient future. 🌏

Together, we are building a future we can be proud of.
One that meets the needs of today, without compromising the needs of tomorrow.
One that conserves and protects our extraordinary biodiversity.
One we are committed to, together.
This is how we live like we love it.

It's our Noosa Biosphere. 💙🌳🐬

💙 Love Noosa’s Ocean? Here’s one way you can help protect it!

We’ve just launched The Blue Biosphere Giving Circle. A donations campaign which helps support critical marine research by .australia of iconic marine species in the Noosa Biosphere Reserve. EOFY is almost here and all donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Funds raised will help cover important equipment including;

🚁 DJI Mavic 4 Pro Drone - for aerial surveys of whales, dolphins, turtles, rays, and sharks in nearshore waters.

🐬 F-POD dolphin loggers - listening for dolphins and small whales up to 1km away.

🦈 Acoustic Receivers - extending the coverage of marine wildlife tracking across the reserve.

🏷️ Transmitter Tags - tracking individual bull sharks and other marine species as they move through Noosa’s waterways.

What an incredible afternoon at the Ocean & Whale Honouring Ceremony at First Point 🐋 A huge turnout from our community showing their love, appreciation and respect for our oceans, welcoming the humpback whales as they start to pass through our blue biosphere on their northward migration 💙 Thankyou Oceans for All and Surfrider Sunshine Coast for creating this event, and to our community for showing up and showing how much you care 🫶

Yesterday representatives from Noosa Biosphere attended the Queensland Tourism Industry Council () World Environment Day event on Kabi Kabi Country.

👣 Some of us were lucky enough to join the morning walk with Zeke, our Kabi Kabi guide who shared insights into the area’s ecology - from the trees used to craft baskets, spears, and boomerangs, to Dreamtime stories of the land and sea. He spoke of how following nature’s seasons, rhythms, and patterns sustained both people and environment for thousands of years, with the understanding that we are not apart from nature - we are part of it.

🛥️ Those on the Stillwater Cruise learned about ecological importance of our river systems from experts including Professor Ian Lowe AO who spoke about the importance of Noosa’s Biopshere reserve status and its unique qualities, Richard Howard educated guests on Noosa’s Oyster Regeneration Project, and owner of hybrid-electric vessel Stillwater David Stielow talked to the local highlights of Noosa River.

🌏 We are all continually learning, and as over 140 guests gathered at Elysium Noosa including influential industry leaders for lunch, we heard about the importance of protecting the environment and Noosa’s role in leading the way in regenerative tourism.

💚 Collaboration and shared responsibility were key themes of the day as we all continue to work together here in Noosa to tread lightly, and live within our natural limits

How do you Live Like You Love It?

Jarrah is our NBRF Youth Ambassador and she absolutely models how to live like you love it. You can usually find Jarrah along Noosa River or the beach, removing discarded fishing line or rubbish to keep our waterways and wildlife safe and healthy. Love your work, Jarrah! 🙌

When you Live Like You Love It, we minimise our impacts on our natural systems.
We appreciate the natural environment we live in.
We help protect what we love. 🫶

This World Environment Day we wanted to shine the light on just how important our environment is to our community 💚 78% of people surveyed for Noosa Council's Destination Management Plan put protecting the environment as their number one priority, and 77% of local respondents to Council's 2026 Liveability Survey identified care for the natural environment as their top priority - thank you Noosa 🙏

Whether you live, work, or visit the Noosa Biosphere, it comes with the shared responsibility to care for, and live within our natural limits. And with these results in, we know so many of you agree 🫶

We ask you to take a pause this World Environment Day, and think about ways you are able to protect what you are part of, with some simple ideas to get you started below;

♻️ Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
🌱 Volunteer with a local environmental organisation
💚 Car Pool, take public transport, ride or walk when you can
🌏 If you don't have time but want to contribute, you can make a one off or regular donation to the Noosa Biosphere.

Every dollar goes towards helping safeguard Noosa's unique ecosystems and natural environment, ensuring they thrive now and for future generations. And all donations over $2 are tax deductible.

The Noosa Biosphere Reserve protects one of Australia’s most biologically rich landscapes, while supporting thriving communities, sustainable development, and a shared responsibility to care for place. 🫶🐨

Noosa Shire is a place where we:
🐸 Conserve our rich biodiversity – like the 65 distinct ecosystems, 2224 native plant species, and the 637 native animal species.
🌳 Protect 43% of the land area in our Shire.
💸 Celebrate economic growth – like our small business economy, thriving hinterland communities, and desirable lifestyle opportunities.
🔬Share knowledge - through educating our young people, research and monitoring of our natural systems, and collaboration across community and government for better conservation management.
👥 Nurture cultural heritage – by learning from the stories and practices of the Kabi Kabi people who managed these lands for tens of thousands of years before us.

Explore all the things that make the Noosa Biosphere beautiful and unique. 💙

Here in Noosa, research and real life converge. 🔬🌿

As a UNESCO biosphere reserve, Noosa is a living laboratory — a place where learning, science and lived experience come together to test, learn and evolve how we live sustainably.

When research happens in real environments, the solutions are able to better address challenges.

Progress happens.

As a community, we’re leading innovation, tackling challenges, and finding solutions for the future—a future that looks out for every living thing.

Our Noosa Biosphere is a living laboratory, actively working to:
🦈 Understand bull shark ecology for improved shark control practices and education.
🐋 Understand human interactions with iconic marine species for a healthy co-existence.
🐟 Conserve and manage healthy waterways, and restore critical ecosystems.
🐨 Combine technology and citizen science to protect and monitor koala populations.

There is so much that makes our Noosa Biosphere special. 💙💚
