Holy guacamole! Forget the screen time! This school holidays, turn your kids into little food explorers on a journey to discover where our meals really come from ❤️🥑🌳

Slow Food Noosa’s Snail Kids program will be at the Noosa Community Gardens in Noosaville on Monday, 6 July, from 9am.

Our Easter program at the community garden was such a hit with all the kids - we’ve decided to do it again - this time featuring the versatile and nutritious humble avocado!

“The aim is to get the families and the children in the garden and make that really strong connection about where our food is coming from,’’ Snail Kids co-ordinator Di Seels said.

“It works brilliantly in that beautiful outdoor area at the community garden. It is so delightful - blueberries for the soul.’’

The popularity of the last session had prompted Slow Food Kids to run another! The response from the gardens and community - is that they would like to continue at every school holidays.

“From Tree to Guacamole” is the name of the July program, which has Ana Vaia Garcia as co-ordinator.

Discover the journey of the avocado with Slow Food Noosa Snail of Approval certified organic farmer John Tidy.

John and wife Julia have been farming organically at Amamoor for more than 20 years. They will bring a wealth of experience, inspiration and enthusiasm to the morning.

As well as the chance to explore the Noosa Community Garden there will be the opportunity to make guacamole with John and the Snail Kids team.

“We want this to be about the kids - and the community garden is right there,’’ Di Seels said.

The Slow Food Snail Kids program is an award-winning initiative by Slow Food Noosa (head to the projects page of the Slow Food Noosa website to learn more!) that connects primary school children with ethical farmers and producers.

Registration is required for the session: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1JWMD4Ed-4S632sF1QFbu4b12SbDpoQKxr0RBgM3RyD4/edit

Adults must supervise their children at all times. Maximum of 25 children at the program - so book now to avoid disappointment!

Slow Food Snail John Tidy's Organics was featured in Noosa Today (free subscription!) this week for the magnificent Sunrise Breakfast they hosted as part of GourMay Mary Valley 2026. The event was inspirational for all - getting out in the environment and enjoying nutritious food as the sun shone over the lands of our producers. Magic.

Big thank you to all the local food producers who contributed to the moment… it was delicious! If we’ve missed you please comment so we can add you!

What a way to greet the day! Gathering together in the half-light of early dawn… the sound of clicking bamboo in the breeze… the Milky Way overhead. A bracing hike up the hill to one of the high points of the Mary Valley. A feature of the celebration of GourMay Mary Valley 2026 - John Tidy's Organics sunrise breakfast exceeded all expectations - even following the accounts of those attending last year’s event!Delicious local food sourced from within half an hour of the farm gate was enjoyed while John and Julia Tidy were presented with Slow Food Noosa and Surrounds Snail of Approval. This accreditation acknowledges their commitment and leadership in inspiring clean, nutritious and fair food production - which is aligned with Slow Food International’s philosophy - as Slow Food Noosa & Surrounds President Anne Godfrey explained. It was a fabulous morning of food, conviviality and stunning Australian vistas set amongst the organic farm landscape.

There were two farm tours on the weekend and a self-guided trail - all a part of the GourMay Mary Valley 2026 food festival. Farm Tours attracted people from
Brisbane to north of Gympie, hosted by Matt Golinski - Official and Sunshine Coast Foodie Martin Duncan. Matt’s tour kicked off at 8:30am from Forage Farms, while Martin’s tour began at lunchtime at John Tidy's Organics. From Forage Farms - Matt’s tour ventured to meet the passionate John Tidy at his Organic avocado farm, then Amber and Tim Scott and the gang at Kandanga Farm Store for lunch. The tour then had a great conclusion with Dave and Julie Moffatt and their daughters at Mary Valley Yuzu. The Farm Trail proved an interesting and informative way for people to experience what it’s like for the farmers and producers who present our food for the table. The day has been a great innovation as part of GourMay… the month-long celebration of food in the Mary Valley. What it underlines is the value of good, healthy and nutritious local, fresh food… and the benefit of good health.
