Mr David Moncrieff MP, Federal Member for Hughes visited Sutherland Communications Brigade to present a $2500.00 grant for a Kestral Weather Station. Sutherland Comms Brigade will use the Kestral in the brigade’s Operational Command Vehicle (OCV) to support firefighting operations in the field. David Moncrieff MP met with the brigade Captain and executive members who gave him a tour of brigade facilities including the communications room and OCV. Brigade Captain, Ben Gibson demonstrated the Kestral and explained how it will be used to collect valuable information such as temperature, humidity and wind speed and direction.

A new national warning system, AusAlert, will be tested in the Liverpool area tomorrow afternoon. The test will take place at 4pm in the vicinity of Heathcote Rd and Newbridge Rd.

If you are within the test area, or neighbouring suburbs including Liverpool, Moorebank, Warwick Farm, Milperra and Casula, your device, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

Phones and devices that receive the test alert may vibrate and emit a loud, siren-like sound that will last for approximately 10 seconds.

This is a part of planned trials of the new system, which is designed to deliver faster alerts, reach more people and remain reliable even during network congestion.

Fire crews will be undertaking a 20 hectare hazard reduction burn tomorrow in Illawong to assist in reducing bushfire risk to nearby residents.

Crews will be working near Connor Place and Walsh Close from 9am.
