🚒 HYDRANTS NEAR ME!!!! 🚒
Being ready for bushfires means knowing where hydrants are located so they can be kept clear and easily accessed by emergency services.
With the school holidays nearly here, we have created a treasure hunt in your local area. Below are some photos you can use in the treasure hunt to find hydrants and help ensure hydrants can be easily accessed, are not blocked by trailers, and are not overgrown. Refer below for what each photo means.
1️⃣ Blue Reflectors: Have you noticed blue reflectors positioned off-centre on the road? The reflector marks the location of a hydrant. The side of the reflector indicates which side of the road the nearby hydrant is located on. Not all roads have reflectors.
2️⃣ In-Ground Hydrant: An in-ground hydrant is marked with an H. Sometimes it may also have MWS&DB on it. This is what Sydney Water was formerly known as. The hydrant needs to be clear and accessible, not covered by overgrowth or blocked by parked cars, trailers or boats.
3️⃣ Green H Sign: A green H sign indicates there is a hydrant marker attached to the other side of the pole.
4️⃣ Yellow Road Arrows: Yellow arrows painted on the road point towards the footpath where the hydrant is located.

Today we are at the Bushcare Fair at Kirrawee - Kiln Road, Kirrawee. We are here for “Get Ready Weekend” - to help with your bushfire plan and answer any questions you have about preparing for fire season. We will be here from 9am to 3pm. Come down and say ‘hi’.

WHAT IS HAZARD REDUCTION?
Hazard reduction is any proactive step taken to make a hazard less dangerous. For bushfire, this means:
• Reducing vegetation fuel loads through controlled burning or clearing
• Creating firebreaks so fires can’t spread easily
• Preparing communities to be prepared if a fire occurs

Mr David Moncrieff MP, Federal Member for Hughes visited Sutherland Communications Brigade to present a $2500.00 grant for a Kestral Weather Station. Sutherland Comms Brigade will use the Kestral in the brigade’s Operational Command Vehicle (OCV) to support firefighting operations in the field. David Moncrieff MP met with the brigade Captain and executive members who gave him a tour of brigade facilities including the communications room and OCV. Brigade Captain, Ben Gibson demonstrated the Kestral and explained how it will be used to collect valuable information such as temperature, humidity and wind speed and direction.

A new national warning system, AusAlert, will be tested in the Liverpool area tomorrow afternoon. The test will take place at 4pm in the vicinity of Heathcote Rd and Newbridge Rd.

If you are within the test area, or neighbouring suburbs including Liverpool, Moorebank, Warwick Farm, Milperra and Casula, your device, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

Phones and devices that receive the test alert may vibrate and emit a loud, siren-like sound that will last for approximately 10 seconds.

This is a part of planned trials of the new system, which is designed to deliver faster alerts, reach more people and remain reliable even during network congestion.
