Please be aware there is a hazard reduction burn scheduled for Friday 4 September and Saturday 5 September at Menai. See the post below for details.

As always please be prepared for smoke in the area, please only call 000 if you see an un patrolled flame in your area.

Prepare your home by closing windows and doors and recirculating your air conditioner to prevent smoke entering your home. If you have respiratory issues please ensure you have your medication and stay out of smokey environments.

🔥 HAZARD REDUCTION BURN - LLANBERIS DRIVE, MENAI 🔥

The NSW Rural Fire Service will be conducting a planned hazard reduction burn in Menai on Friday, 4 September 2026, weather and conditions permitting.

The burn will cover approximately 10 hectares and is being undertaken to reduce bush fire fuels and help protect nearby homes and the community.

Motorists are reminded to drive to the conditions if smoke affects visibility, and nearby residents should keep windows and doors closed if affected by smoke.

Get the guidance you need to prepare for the bush & grass fires this season at Get Ready Weekend. Meet your local Engadine RFS brigade at Ferntree Road on Sunday 20 September from 9:30-2pm to find out how to make your bush fire survival plan and prepare your property.

Come along and meet Engadine RFS, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, SES, OMG gluten free Donuts, Express Coffee Van, Shire Snake Wrangler, Sutherland Shire Council, WIRES, Red Cross, and so much more! Grab a sausage sandwich and watch our live fire demonstrations at 11am and 1pm.

For training this Sunday, our team worked through a range of scenarios designed to sharpen key skills ahead of the upcoming fire season.

We ran a radio communication drill where members had to draw a picture based solely on verbal instructions to build confidence on the radios with some fabulous results!

Following on from this we also completed rapid size up exercises for potential fires along the urban interface, various tactics that can be utilised ahead of a fire front and held discussions on local fire behaviour, particularly how it can potentially move across our ridge lines and valleys under various weather systems and wind directions. The team also discussed some of the unique risks specific to the Engadine area.
