E-bike articles in the SMH today and yesterday cover a lot of ground, as do the comments.
Loved this one from Mary B in Glebe,
“The government should force e-bike providers to co-operate to offer for sale a light weight jack so that I, at age 82, can lift up fallen e-bikes blocking footpaths. At 30, I could carry large bags of cement, but no longer. The jack would need to elevate the fallen bike to about 40 degrees, after which I’m strong enough to complete the task. The jack would need to be very light weight, so that I can always carry it around, so it would be costly to make. I would pay up to $40 to have one, so large subsidies would be needed. I would also need a card to flash at e-bikes to enable the wheels to turn for short periods, so that I can move them to a safe position just a few yards away. The card would be effective for all brands.
Since I retired, I’ve always enjoyed cleaning up footpaths. It is good to be capable of bending over to pick up a bit of litter and dump it in a nearby bin. If I win the lottery I would pay a coach to teach me how to ride e-bikes, but I don’t dare do it on my own. In 1967 I walked from Austria to Belgium, a bit over 950km. Exercise is good for the body and the soul.”
Who is “dw”? he/she writes a good comment too.

As complaints rise and the NSW government moves to tighten regulations, the fight over shared e-bikes is becoming a key test for Sydney’s transport future.
