Sandy Point Rural Fire Brigade is a volunteer brigade of the NSW Rural Fire Service, consisting of around 40 members with about 20 of those considered currently active. We are primarily responsible for the protection of approximately 200 homes in the community of Sandy Point, which is located on the western outskirts of the Sutherland Shire in Sydney. Working at Bangor on Saturday saw members trying to beat the rain and get a Hazard Reduction in before a few days predicted wet weather. Unfortunately the burn didn’t take and was postponed until finer and dryer conditions. Our crew out at Waterfall made some decent progress on their task with NPWS.

Have you seen the smoke in the air? Dry weather is allowing the RFS to catch up on some priority Hazard Reduction work. The cooler months allow for the burning off of surface fuels to help prevent bushfires or lower the intensity should one occur.
The brigade has been involved at Illawong, Yarrawarrah, Woronora Dam and Southern Highlands.

Busy day yesterday for our crew.
First we responded to a grass fire assisting Cumberland/Macarthur District at Denham Court. Around 2 hectares were burnt and a shed was lost.
On the way back to the station via the M5, we were redirected to a Motor Vehicle Accident between Moorebank Ave and the Hume Hwy. We arrived alongside FRNSW 008 Liverpool. With all vehicles already on tow trucks RFS crews were released and headed back to station.

Over the past five days, our firefighters Dale M and Robert R have been deployed to Victoria to assist with bushfires burning in the Northern High Country. 🔥

Both members have been working on the Walwa River Road fire as part of NSW RFS Strike Team Charlie. Alongside 22 other RFS firefighters, the crew have been operating in remote and challenging terrain near Colac Colac, extinguishing hotspots and blacking out to ensure containment lines are secure.

Working closely with the CFA (Country Fire Authority), Forest Fire Management Victoria and multiple other agencies, the teams have shown outstanding cooperation and professionalism in preparation for a weekend of hot weather.

As a reward for all their hard work and effort they were treated to a bonus viewing of the amazing Aurora Australis Lights last night 🌌

An Extreme Fire Danger rating will be in place as hot, dry and windy conditions are forecast across much of the state.

Take action now and have your plan ready if fire threatens.

Report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).
