Dr Peek‑A‑Boo loves inviting children, families and staff into worlds where anything is possible ✨ Whether it's transforming a room through imaginative interior decorating or throwing a party complete with mimed food, animals and even a swimming pool, she delights in turning everyday moments into playful adventures. The real magic comes when that spark of imagination takes on a life of its own, and the play continues long after the clowns have said goodbye.

At Clown Doctors Australia, art can look a little different.

It can be an improvised song in a hospital room. A ridiculous game invented on the spot. A moment of play that gives someone choice. Or a familiar tune that has a quiet foot tapping along.

Healthcare clowning is a highly specialised artform. Our professional performers draw on improvisation, music, physical comedy and creativity to meet people where they are and create something together, in real time.

What makes healthcare clowning an artform? 🎨🤹

It’s not simply about making people laugh.

Our Clown Doctors and Laughter Care Specialists are professional performers who draw on skills including improvisation, music, physical comedy and play to create something unique with every person they meet. Each interaction unfolds in the moment, shaped by the individual, their surroundings and what they need right then.

Sometimes that leads to laughter. Sometimes a moment of play or connection. And sometimes the impact is much quieter.

That’s the art of healthcare clowning. Meeting people where they are and creating moments that can bring creativity, joy and humanity into the healthcare experience.

In just two days, AusArt Day will bring artists, arts organisations and supporters together for a national day of giving to the arts. For Clown Doctors Australia, it’s an opportunity to celebrate this extraordinary artform and help more people understand the skill and artistry behind every interaction.

Laughter, creativity and connection have once again travelled across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands for Dust Up 2026 🎪

Through circus skills, storytelling, music, imaginative play and plenty of silliness, our Clown Doctors joined young people across remote communities to create, learn and perform together.

This year’s theme of reciprocity was at the heart of the experience. Our performers arrived with games and invitations to play, and in return were gifted songs, stories, laughter, creativity and moments of connection.

Say hello to Monty 🎈

Monty is one of our Sydney-based Laughter Care Specialists and brings more than 30 years of experience across stage and screen to his work in aged care. A performer, singer and producer, he has appeared in productions including The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables and My Fair Lady, while also championing projects that amplify underrepresented voices.

Eight years ago, Monty found his true calling when he joined Clown Doctors Australia ✨ Today, he brings music, cheekiness and deep empathy to older people living in residential aged care, creating joyful moments of connection through laughter and play. He says it's the generosity, wisdom and kindness of the elders he meets that make the work so rewarding.

One of Monty's most memorable moments came when he sang a familiar song with a resident who was rarely verbal. As she joined in, her daughter quietly said, "I haven't heard her voice in years." It's moments like these that capture the heart of Laughter Care, creating meaningful connections through music, memory and joy 🩷
