eDNA for Biodiversity Action Project is revealing hidden biodiversity on farms 🌾🚜

From soil microbes to native species, every farm has a biodiversity story. 🌱

Through environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling, the eDNA for Biodiversity Action project is helping farmers across Western Australia discover what's living in their dams, creeks and wetlands including species that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Delivered by RegenWA and Perth NRM through Landcare Agriculture's Biodiversity in Action program, the project is providing practical insights that can support habitat restoration, waterway management and resilient farming systems.

In the next phase, the project will use the Oblong turtle as a focal species to explore how biodiversity can be considered in everyday farm management decisions.

The project is a great example of science helping producers care for the natural assets on their properties while maintaining productive and sustainable businesses.

Landcare really does bring all generations together. What a fantastic photo capturing this from Julie K in Morrisons, Victoria! 📷

“We were delighted to see so many locals turn up when we called for help to revegetate a remote stretch of riverside for platypus habitat. We rely on local community grants and local people to join us in delivering these environmental projects.”

Year 2 of the AusNet Community Landcare Grants is wrapped!

The AusNet Community Landcare Grants have now completed another year of providing $20,000 annually for three years to the Victoria based recipients, Gecko CLaN Landcare Network and Phillip Island Landcare Group.

SWIPE to discover the impact the AusNet partnership achieved over the past year!

🦎 The Gecko CLaN Landcare Network’s project is restoring habitat and enhancing biodiversity in the Strathbogie Shire. Unfortunately, the past year has been challenging for Strathbogie communities, with drought and bushfires impacting the work they have achieved. As the Network moves towards recovery, nest boxes and paddock tree guards will play an even more vital role in supporting wildlife and restoring damaged landscapes.

🐧 Phillip Island Landcare Group’s project enhances and protects almost four hectares of native remnant vegetation. In its second year, the group has made significant progress with strong community engagement through consultation and on ground support. They have continued to grow their involvement with local council and Junior Landcare, hosting group planting events.

The AusNet team has done an outstanding job rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in corporate environmental volunteering. This includes 8 events, 98 staff volunteers, and a huge 515 volunteer hours contributed.

Now entering the final year of this funding, we look forward to the outcomes still to come and remain proud of the resilience and recovery efforts shown across our landcare communities, especially those impacted by climate disasters.
