Coolum Meals on Wheels finished National Volunteers Week on a high. Our Federal Member for Fairfax, Mr Ted O’Brien hosted a morning tea at Maroochydore to present Certificates to Volunteers, clubs and Organisations. Our volunteer Peter Cooper was a worthy recipient for over 13 years of Service to CMOW as was our own recognition for over 40 years of Service within our community.

It may have been miserable weather wise but not our wonderful volunteers who enjoyed an afternoon of wine, beer, good company and the endless serving of food in our improvised entertainment area. We were humbled by our local Lions Club who this week donated $4000 to our volunteer drivers to assist with fuel costs. Our local MP Dan Purdie who donated a hamper for a door prize and our special guests Maria Suraz and Taylor Bunnag both our Councillors from Division 8 and 9 Sunshine Coast Council and of course Francis from our Lions Club shared the afternoon all made possible by Chef Marcus, Apprentice Josh, our Service Manager Gerard and our Management Committee who made it happen with the loan of Bar Tables from Coolum Surf Club and celebrating allowed CMOW to acknowledge milestones of Service. 15 years, 10 years and 5 years. Thank you to our 200 plus volunteers who make CMOW tick.

Celebrations at Coolum Beach Meals on Wheels. 40 years our service has operated from our purpose built facility. Clients, past and present volunteers, our Inaugural President Dr. Wyn Lewis and past and present Committee Members all enjoyed a Morning Tea prepared by Chef Marcus and served in fine style in our garden with bubbly and added extras.

28th of December we had a very successful Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Maroochydore and now we are ready to do it all again on Easter Sunday. Our fund raising is always dependent on the generous hours donated by our volunteers. If you’d like to join our team pictured then let us know as it’s always a community effort that makes the day a success and of course always a sausage on offer at the end of the two hour shift.

Friday 23rd Pam, Samantha and Pat attended the Sunshine Coast Council Australia Day awards. Coolum Meals was one of 43 groups/organisations to be nominated in this category and were proudly acknowledged for the work our volunteers and staff maintain daily to deliver fresh nutritious meals to our clients within the Coolum community.
