What a wonderful day of learning, sharing and connecting on Woppaburra Land and Sea Country. 🙌🏽🌊🪸🐋

A huge thank you to Woppaburra Traditional Custodians and Elders for generously sharing cultural knowledge, stories and perspectives on caring for our reefs and marine environment. Your leadership made this event truly special. 🐢🌿🌊

Thank you to all community members, families, volunteers, partners and supporters who came along, participated in activities and helped make the day such a success. It was fantastic to see people of all ages engaging with reef conservation, citizen science, virtual reality experiences and conversations about protecting our precious marine ecosystems. 🪸🐠🌏

🌊🐠🌿Thank you so much to CoralWatch and Elijah’s World for joining us at the Rockhampton Agricultural Show yesterday!

We were honoured to share with students the work we do together to care for Country and Central Queensland, while exploring how land use impacts the Great Barrier Reef, marine life, and our precious coral ecosystems. 🪸🌊🐋

A special shout out to Freddie, who volunteered on his birthday and even got the opportunity to shake hands with Donna Kirkland MP! 🔥🙌🏽 Thank you, Donna, for your ongoing support of our young people and for always championing youth engagement in our region.

Beloved Capricorn Conservation Council Life Member, Dr Bob Newby has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to conservation and the environment. 🙌🏽🔥

This recognition is incredibly well deserved. For many decades Bob has dedicated his time, expertise and passion to protecting the environment, supporting conservation initiatives and educating communities throughout Central Queensland. Many of us know Bob not only as a respected scientist and environmental advocate, but also as a mentor, educator and community leader who has inspired countless people to become involved in conservation. 🌿🦋

Bob has been a valued leader and supporter of Capricorn Conservation Council over many, many, many, years. His commitment to environmental education, biodiversity conservation and community engagement has helped inspire the next generation of scientists, conservationists and land carers. The article highlights Sophie’s commitment to community-led conservation, environmental education, biodiversity protection, and building meaningful partnerships with First Nations communities across Central Queensland. 🌏🤝🌿

Drawing on the guidance of Elders, mentors, and community, Sophie’s story reflects the powerful belief that “Landcare is for Everyone” and that when we give our time, knowledge and care to Country, we all gain connection, belonging, and a healthier future. 🌊🌳🦋

We are especially honoured to be featured in the same edition as legendary environmental advocate and Landcare Australia Chair Peter Garrett whose leadership has inspired generations of Australians to care for the environment- including our Coordinator. 🌏🎶🌱

🌿⛰️ Our Capricorn Conservation Council Coordinator has recently completed the first residential gathering of the Women's Environmental Leadership Australia - WELA National Leadership Program in the Blue Mountains, joining environmental leaders and changemakers from across Australia for an intensive leadership development experience. 🌏🌿

The program focuses on strengthening leadership capacity within the environmental sector through a curriculum that explores systems thinking, relational leadership, community engagement, storytelling, strategic influence and decolonial methodologies. Participants were encouraged to examine how leadership can support positive environmental and social outcomes through collaboration, reflection and long-term thinking. 🌱🍃

Set within the Blue Mountains landscape, the gathering provided opportunities for learning, discussion and connection, while emphasising the importance of caring for Country, diverse perspectives and building strong networks across regions and sectors. 🌿🦜⛰️

A sincere thank you to Women’s Environmental Leadership Australia (WELA) for delivering such a thoughtful and well-designed program, and to all participants who shared their knowledge, experiences and insights throughout the week. The welcoming and supportive environment made this country girl feel right at home. 🌾💚

The first gathering marks the beginning of a broader leadership journey, with valuable lessons, connections and perspectives to be carried forward into future environmental and community work. 🌏🌱🍃
