Today is World Arthritis Day. Almost one in two Australians aged 75 and over has arthritis, and Support at Home can help.

Allied health like physio, OT and podiatry can help you stay mobile, and there’s no contribution for these services. Grab rails and other home modifications can be funded through the separate Assistive Technology and Home Modifications scheme. And since 1 October, help with showering and dressing has no contribution either.

Today is Ageism Awareness Day, and ageism isn’t always obvious.

Sometimes it sounds like concern: “Should you still be driving?” Sometimes it sounds like a compliment: “You look amazing for your age.”

It’s a day for seeing older Australians for who they are, not for the assumptions people make about what they can or can’t do. Good support starts with asking someone what they want, and then listening to the answer.
