Friends of the craft,
we stand in sorrow,
not merely for the loss of a man,
but for the absence of a Brother.
A Brother whose hand was always ready,
whose counsel was steady,
and whose presence brought warmth to our Lodge’s and comfort to our hearts.
In Freemasonry we are taught that life is temporary,
that each of us is but a traveller upon the level of time.
Yet no lesson truly prepares us for the silence left behind
when one of our own lays down the working tools of life.
We remember not only his words and great stories
but the way he carried himself amongst us ;
with friendship, loyalty, humility, and care for others.
The empty chair he leaves behind will remind us that while a man may pass beyond our sight,
the mark he leaves upon the hearts of his Brethren will never fade.
Though the Great Architect has called him from labour to refreshment eternal,
his memory remains built into the very stones of our lodge’s.
And as long as we gather in peace and harmony,
a part of our Brother will still walk amongst us.
To his family, we offer not only our sympathy,
but our enduring support and love.
For the bond of Brotherhood does not end at the grave —
it lives on in those who remain.
Farewell Very Worshipful Brother Bruce Rogers AGDD.
May the Great Architect receive you into that Grand Lodge above,
where peace reigns forever,
labour is ended,
and the light never fades.
So mote it be.
