The word "chido" represents hope. In the local Shona language, chido means “wish,” “desire” or “aspiration”. It points to the unfulfilled wishes and dream
s of underprivileged young children; the aspiration to give these children opportunities that we often taken for granted.
‘CHIDO’, the name of the project, is an acronym for the values or principles that are embedded in the project’s core business. Each letter of the word represents not only a key virtue the project strives to achieve but also a value that drives the team members. The virtues are as follows:
C is for courage – we are bold and driven to prevail and overcome challenges. H is for hope – we trust in the fulfilment of what is desired and desirable, now and in the future. I is for integrity – we strongly and honestly commit to actions and thoughts as guided and informed by principles. D is for dedication – we share steadfast commitment to achieve best outcomes for all. O is for obedience – we comply with the demands of a higher call; legitimate authority is worthy of our acceptance. Objectives of CHIDO Co-Action
CHIDO Co-Action aims to achieve the following objectives:
● supporting communities in building new and existing education and health facilities to improve the community’s social outcomes;
● spearheading literacy and numeracy levels for school children;
● cooperating with community stakeholders to improve vocational skills and health and hygiene and to build capacity for future self-sustenance. How CHIDO Co-Action will deliver on these objectives
CHIDO aims to deliver on these objectives by:
● engaging proactively with communities and responsible authorities in Zimbabwe to identify local viable projects they require assistance with;
● working collaboratively with like-minded Australians to gather ideas, mobilise required financial and material resources for the projects;
● encouraging local community to buy in and give support to the projects through active participation;
● collaborating with local community to identify skills deficits and develop programs to build capacity to address these;
