๐ŸŒฑ Community Planting with the Rockhampton Womenโ€™s Shed ๐ŸŒฑ

Capricornia Catchments recently hosted a fantastic community planting morning at our Mt Archer revegetation site with the wonderful group from the Rockhampton Womenโ€™s Shed.

The day began with a short walk around the Nurim Circuit and lookout, where our team member Krysty shared insights about the native plant species found in the area, the history of the site, and the restoration work our team has been carrying out over the past few years.

Following the walk, the group got their hands dirty planting 50 native plants into an area that had been prepared earlier in the week by our trainee team. Every plant added helps strengthen the ongoing restoration of this special place.

To wrap up a great morning of learning and planting, everyone enjoyed a catered lunch provided by Capricornia Catchments.

A big thank you to the Rockhampton Womenโ€™s Shed for coming along and contributing to the restoration of Mt Archer! ๐ŸŒฟ

If you are part of a community group or organisation that would like to do a planting event with us, please get in touch!

Great Cane Toad Bust โ€“ what a night!

Thanks to an awesome group of locals, we removed 127 cane toads from the landscape at the Rockhampton Golf Club, with a combined weight of 20.3kg ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

The biggest toad of the night tipped the scales at 290g (a proper monster).

We were also glad to have local Councillor Elliot Hilse come along and support the effort.

We did spot a few Native frogs too, see the photo of Litoria Rubella - Desert tree frog below, so there is hope that with further removal of cane toads we can decrease food competition for the native frogs and see their numbers increase over time.

Every toad removed makes a difference. Huge thanks to everyone who came out and got involved ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŒฟ

Did You Know?

Capricornia is home to internationally recognised Ramsar wetlands, including Shoalwater & Corio Bays.

These wetlands support over 220 bird species, 445 fish species, and countless plants, mammals, reptiles, and frogs.

They act as natureโ€™s filter, cleaning water before it reaches the Great Barrier Reef.

Mangroves in Shoalwater Bay cover more than half the intertidal area, protecting coastlines and providing habitat for wildlife.

Dozens of migratory bird species rely on Capricorniaโ€™s wetlands for feeding and breeding.
