18 August 2026: The RMU Choir and its membership look forward to exciting things to come -140 years to commemorate in 2028 - but we remember our vibrant and amazing history.

MEMORIES - A CAKE TO CELEBRATE IN 1988

'In the early 1880’s, with the influence of European settlers and musically inclined local people, Rockhampton became a blossoming entertainment centre. The Rockhampton Musical Union, a small group of ladies and gentlemen with a common interest in music and singing was formed on August 18th 1888 when the Leidertafel Musical Group and the Philharmonic Society combined. Their first choral rendition was ‘The Merry Men of Sherwood Forest’

In 1988 - The Rockhampton Musical Union Choir is people – from all walks of life with a common interest – some dedicate a lifetime, others a season. The common denominator is friendship, a love of music and singing'.
