WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY JUNE 15

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day first established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011 to raise awareness about the abuse and neglect experienced by older adults. This day aims to promote understanding of the importance of preventing elder abuse and supporting the rights and well-being of older people, who unfortunately often suffer abuse from those close to them.

Today, some of our Rockhampton Club members represented Zonta at the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women's Network Long Lunch. We were fortunate to have Zonta members from the Wide Bay region in attendance alongside us.

The theme was, Together We Rise.

Zonta values collaboration, and supporting and empowering women and girls worldwide.

💛 Supporting dignity, hope and wellbeing in our community 💛

Recently, Zonta Club of Rockhampton was proud to deliver our annual donation (with a bit extra this year!) to the Hands of Support program at the Rockhampton Neighbourhood Centre, operated by St Vincent de Paul.

For many people, a helping hand at the right time can make all the difference. Programs like Hands of Support provide practical assistance and help individuals and families navigate challenging circumstances with dignity and hope.

We are grateful for the compassionate work of the volunteers and staff who support people in our community during difficult times. By working together, we can help build a stronger, more caring and connected community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

💛 Supporting our local community 💛

Recently, Zonta Club of Rockhampton was pleased to donate several Woolworths vouchers to iCare Yeppoon to support the valuable services they provide across our region.

We appreciate the important work iCare Community Project in Yeppoon does to assist individuals and families in our community experiencing significant hardship. We are proud to contribute to their ongoing efforts.

Together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Join the walk Thursday 21 May.

Walk with us on Thursday 21 May at the Queensland Police Service Domestic & Family Violence Awareness Walk, as we unite to raise awareness, show support, and stand strong against domestic and family violence.

🗓️Thursday 21 May 2026
⏲️Meet at 9.20am to begin the walk at 9.30am
📍Meet at the ‘Red Bench’ in front of the Rockhampton Regional Council Library

Following the walk there will be a short speech, delivered by the Queensland Police Service, recognising Domestic and Family Violence victim-survivors.

Together Queenslanders can prevent domestic and family violence 💜

Thanks to everyone who supported our recent High Tea raising awareness during Domestic & Family Violence Prevention month.

An enjoyable afternoon was had by all while raising funds to support DV Safe Phones & other Zonta local projects.

What an incredible night at STEM Connect (Thurs 30 April) 💫

Nearly 80 women joined us at Cocobrew Rockhampton from a wide range of non-traditional fields—including professions and trades—sharing their experiences and opening up conversations about what future pathways in STEM can really look like.

A highlight of the evening was our panel of four amazing speakers, who brought honesty, insight, and inspiration to the room. Their stories sparked meaningful discussion and gave real perspective on the opportunities available right here in our community.

We also created space for deeper conversations, with every generation represented—students, early career, experienced professionals, and retired women all connecting, learning, and supporting one another.

Events like this strongly align with Zonta Club of Rockhampton’s mission to build a better world for women and girls. Increasing participation in STEM supports greater equality, strengthens women’s voices in decision-making, and expands access to meaningful career pathways. We know outcomes for women are closely tied to financial independence, education, and career opportunities—making spaces like this so important.
