We are launching a new wellbeing and professional development series for artists! Produced by Yarra City Arts and guided by the knowledge and expertise of Leah Manaema Avene of Co Culture, Play in Residence is a FREE six-week program that will help artists build a personalised wellbeing framework to sustain their practice, responding directly to the sector’s call for new conversations around resilience and burnout.

Across six weekly sessions (28 May – 2 July), artists will explore purpose and map how to protect stories and dignity as they carry themselves through industry, community and society. Leah will be offering gentle guidance through questions such as: Why are we making art? What is art for? Why does it hurt? Why can't I stop? What is my story? Why do I bother? At the end of six weeks participants will learn how to acknowledge colonial time, nurture connection, and prioritise relational, responsive ways of working.

Each session will be filled with food, play, storytelling, and hands-on skills development in a small group where wellbeing, creativity and community are treated as essential conditions of arts practice.

📅 When: 28 May – 2 July, every Thursday 10am-1pm
📍 Where: In-person, Collingwood
👥 Who: Early and mid-career artists of any discipline, who work, live, study or practice in Victoria.

EOIs are now open and close midnight 12 May 2026. Find out more and apply via link in comments.

Collingwood has low levels of open space (only 0.3%) and by 2031, it's predicted that there will be a 62% increase in resident population in the area.

That's why Yarra City Council is putting in 2 new green spaces in Collingwood for residents and the whole community to enjoy.

One of the locations is Budd Street, adjacent to 47 Easey Street, a cultural hub of creative tenants including BAR Studio, Useful Objects, Agency and Sarah Scout Presents.

Members of the creative community in the neighbouring surrounds are encouraged to have your say on the draft Concept Design for a new green open space on Budd Street in Collingwood.

Online survey closes at 9am on Monday 13 April 2026 or pop into a feedback session in person on Thursday 26 March 12pm to 2pm or Saturday 11 April 10am to 12pm.

NOW SHOWING!

'I have nothing to say, and I'm saying it: John Cage' by Steve Brown

Artist Steve Brown embraces abstraction for the creative freedom it provides. Viewing art as inherently subjective, Brown believes that meaning lies in the viewer’s interpretation and that the artist’s intention holds no greater authority than the viewer’s response.
