Meerilinga Parenting Service is looking for a volunteer to support our free parent and child programs in Willagee and Coolbellup.

You’ll work alongside an experienced facilitator, welcoming families, helping with activities and play, chatting with parents, and helping create a space where people feel comfortable and included. There is also some setting up of furniture, toys and resources involved.

In return, you’ll gain hands-on experience working with children and families, with opportunities to learn about parent-child connection, child development and community engagement. You’ll be supported by experienced parenting service staff and gain practical experience within an established community organisation.

No specialist experience is required. We’re looking for someone warm, reliable and genuinely interested in families and community.

When: Thursday mornings, starting as soon as possible, and/or Friday mornings from Term 1, 2027, during school terms.
Where: Willagee (Thursdays) and Meerilinga Coolbellup (Fridays).

Students in community services, social work, psychology, education, early childhood or health are very welcome, as is anyone interested in gaining experience or contributing to their local community.

"It is important for us, as Australians, to ensure that children are able to keep their language, culture and religion, because they are part of a child's wellbeing."

Victoria has over ten years of experience at the Western Australian charity Multicultural Futures, coming alongside families and children experiencing hardship and connecting them to support networks. As part of her role, she has found that encouraging children to connect to their own culture, speak their language and follow their religion is essential to them feeling emotionally safe and valued.

This video has been produced with support from Lotterywest as part of Children's Week WA 2026. The theme of this year is based on Article 30 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child: Children have the right to use their own language, celebrate their culture and practise their religion.

Meerilinga Parenting Service has packed up our Hilton office and moved just down the road to Meerilinga Coolbellup.

It’s a new home base, but you’ll still find us out and about across Fremantle, Melville and Cockburn, offering free parenting groups, workshops, information and support.
