🌳 Help us make Oxford Close safer, greener and better!

Perth Modern P&C is looking for volunteers to join a small working group and help improve the busy walking route between Leederville Station and the school for Perth Modern students.

With potential funding of up to $100,000 through Streets Alive program (https://streetsalive.org.au/) and other grants that are potentially able to support this project too.

Ideas include (but not limited to) reducing the current 60 km/h speed limit to 40 km/h, improving pedestrian safety, and bringing more trees and greenery to Oxford Close by replacing some of the car bays etc

No special expertise needed, just ideas, enthusiasm and a little time. You will meet other parents and community members help shape a worthwhile local project. And yes, coffee and lunch at meetings are covered! ☕🌿

A big shout-out from the Perth Modern School P&C to PTA/Transperth for introducing the new 728 school special.

The new service certainly appears to be proving popular, perhaps a little too popular, judging by how crowded some trips have been!

The P&C has been engaging with the PTA for some time, and we look forward to continuing that collaboration to help make the 728 school special trial service even better. Community feedback will be an important part of that process.

Please let us know what is working well, what could be improved, and anything else families and students think the PTA/Transperth should be aware of.

We also recognise that the new service has not yet resolved the issue of students waiting near the roadside before crossing the intersection to access the CAT bus. However, the 728 school special trial is a positive first step towards making students’ journeys safer and easier.

🚸 Advocating for Safer School Crossings 🚸

The Perth Modern P&C continues to advocate for improved pedestrian safety around our school. You may have seen recent media coverage has highlighted concerns about the safety of crossings used by students every day, reinforcing the importance of finding practical solutions:

The Western Australian Government is investing $800,000 in a signalised pedestrian crossing on Roberts Road outside Perth Modern School.

While this crossing may provide an excellent photo opportunity, Perth Modern P&C does not believe it will meaningfully improve student safety. The real pedestrian safety issues remain on Cambridge Street and at the dangerous intersection of Thomas Street and Roberts Road, where students cross every day.

We call on the Western Australian Government to prioritise solutions that will genuinely protect students by investing in the locations where the risk is greatest—not in infrastructure that looks impressive but fails to address the real problem.

😃👏❤️ Thank you to everyone who attended last night's P&C meeting in person and online. Thanks also to Mitch Mackay for his Principal's Report, support and guidance.

To date P & C School Support approved in 2026 includes:
• $6,000 Outdoor and Aquatic Recreation Equipment (24 Feb)
• $18,414 Seating Outside Beasley and Parsons Buildings (24 Feb)
• $4,981 Guest Speakers for Conversation Series (24 March)
• $50,000 Additional Contribution Towards Shading for Seating Basketball Courts (5 May)
• $7,000 Early Finish School Special Bus Trial – Fridays – 20 weeks (5 May)

Total School Support approved in 2026 is $86,395

Thank you to all of our P&C volunteers and Mod families. None of this would be possible without your P&C contributions and fundraising within the P&C.

Our next P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday 2 June at 6.30pm in the McCusker Boardroom in the Beasley Building. Scheduled P&C meetings are Tuesday of week 3 and week 7 each school term.
